Book Reviews of Island of the Blue DolphinsBook Review: The friendyly relationship between people and animls Summary: 4 Stars
This is story of Karana, the Indian girl who lived alone for years on the island of the Dolphins. But she got her good friends who were animals. She felt warm and happy from the animals. It was not only an unusual adventure of survival, but also a tale of natural beauty and personal discovery. During 30 years, Karaka changed the relationship between animals and her. I love this book because the book shows us how to make a friendly relationship between people and animals.
Please do not hurt the innocent animals if you want to get the trust from animals. Karaka hurt the animals for getting the beautiful feathers, making spears and shoulder armar at the beginning of the book. As result, the wild dogs killed her younger brother. We know sometimes animals lost trust for persons because they were hurt too much. In Tibet, which is an autonomous region of west of China, has a kind of sheep. We call them "Tibet sheep" whose the quantities are less than 1,000 in the world. Their sheepskin can be woven the expensive clothes. The price is higher than gold in west Europe. In the past 20 years, people killed Tibet sheep crazy for money. They were hurt so deeply even though nobody can near to them in any time if they still alive. The scientists have to stop for researching them. Maybe in ten years, Tibet sheep, which is the valuable sheep, will disappear on the earth.
Please try to exchange with animals, you can get an honest friend. Krarana gave up to kill the head of the wild dogs. She talked about Rontu(The dog's name). Rontu companied Krarana till he died after they became good friends. So we know people and animals can be friends although we cannot understand the language for each other. Police dog can help out the policeman to catch the prisoner. The cats can let old people forget the lonely life. The training monkeys bring happy for the children. Too many examples tell us if we try to exchange with animals they will return more wonderfully feelings for us. Please protect the animals, without animals the earth would be unhappy place. Karana lived with birds, gulls and otters together when she stayed on the island. They look like a big family. So we know it is possible that people get well with animals. I saw a cute squirrel that wants to go to the other side of street when I walked in the street of New York last December. Of cause, she could not push the red light. However, it was surprise for me the cars stopped and let the squirrel go first. At that moment. I was shake by the friendly relationship. New York, the biggest city in America, still is the paradise for the animals. My heart filled up the warm feelings. People have to put up many cities for our life. If you should be thought the cities will destroy the animals' home, I will tell you treat animals nicely we will have one big home.
Karana knew animals are like people though they do not talk the same or do the same things. I love the book because I know something from karana's story. I think we have the important thing to do now. We should share our space with animals and give animals a tolerant surrounding. If we put up a friendly relationship with animals, I am sure we will get the generous repay from natural.
Book Review: You should SLOWLY enjoy it Summary: 5 Stars
Island of the Blue Dolphins was a classic children book of Scott O'Dell. After 46 years it still read by children around the world. I really liked this book. This is a book you really should slowly enjoy it.
The book was basic about a true story of an Indian girl named Karana lived alone on the island of blue dolphins for eighteen years. This story all start cause the new Chief Kimki left this island tried to find a country beyond the island and make a place for the villagers on the island after the Aleut ship had came and killed the old Chief Chowig. Months after the white ship from the country had come, and took all the people from the village to the ship. When Karana saw her little brother Ramo was left on the island, she jumped off the ship and live with Ramo. But the next morning Ramo killed by the wild dogs, by the rage of brother's death, she sworn to kill the wild dogs one by one. Maybe Karana was too lonely or the love in her heart appeared or something else, she saved the leader of the wild dogs that she almost killed, then became friend with the dog and named him Rontu. She always wished the white ship will came back, but it never came. She even tried to go to that country, but she find out that the island of the Blue Dolphins is her home. In the next eighteen years she became friends with a lot of animals; built new houses; made a dress and some weapons; meet a girl on anther sail ship named Tutok; be friend with Rontu's son Rontu-Aru, after Rontu died. Finally anther white ship had come and told her the white ship before had sunk in a great storm as soon they reach his country, and that's the reason the white man didn't came.
The book was written use the first-person voice, simple words, detail and understandable sentences.
I like the book that it described the feeling and the characteristics of the character very well, but not always tell straightaway, sometimes use the weather, and sometimes use the action, sometime use the dialogue. For example Karana born the houses of the village because she don't want to recall the memories with the people she lived with, tell us she was suddenly grew up became brave. She slept on the rocks tell us that she was still afraid to be alone.
Some people say this book don't have a good story line, boring, but after I read it slow and carefully I find out this book have a really good story line and a massage Mr. O'Dell want to tell us. At the start the Karana want to kill the wild dogs, but when she see Rontu dying maybe is the lonely or the love in her heart or some thing else, she saved Rontu and became friends, then more animals. At the start, she was lonely and fear filled with bitter but at end she was joyful cause she had many friends, many animal friends. She didn't want to kill one more otter, bird, sea elephant, fox and wild dog. What a change, from fear to happy. What made this change? That is what Mr. O'Dell tried to tell us the power of love.
I think this book is for people in any age. If you like action books, island of blue dolphins is not a good choice. But if you like detail stories this is a good book for you.

Book Review: Beautiful Nature with adventure Summary: 5 Stars
Without doubt this book is worthy of its Newbery Medal and it's rave reviews. This book manages to both excite and calm the reader. It is also Scott O'Dell's one of the famous books in the world. Based on the true story, with unbelievable survival of young girl, Karana. The plot of this book begins dramatically and mellows with moments of drama. As it's draws to an end, it closes with dramatic ending. There are two major turning points. One of them were when Karen's brother dies. From then on, she had to live her by herself. Also when the Aleuts came back, its scenery plot dramatically. While reading this book, you become intimate with the character, almost like a loyal friend but slightly separated. This book is written in first person so it naturally makes readers to become close to the character. But, sometimes this book slightly separates character and the readers, as we never hear about the main character's innermost thoughts. The only emotions are those that are close friend or observer would notice. It adds more realism because after Karen came to USA she could not communicate. Warm- hearted, adventurous Karen is described very well in this book. Scott O'Dell, author of this book, has written a lot of books for teenagers and one of the most popular, well-loved authors for young people. He won Newbery Award Medal three times and a lot of other awards and in various countries. His books have been translated into other languages so people of all countries can enjoy his classics. One thing that surprises us, while reading this book, is that it is very well researched. He researched a lot of things that are required in order to describe her life in the island. In this book, you'll see a lot of unfamiliar vocabulary that is used to describe things both in the past and related to island life. His style of writing also attracts us. You feel like you were there with her as the reader is just following her like the waves and the wind. It also captures and expresses her feelings. You can almost see the scenes and imagine them clearly. Since it is written in first person, you become friendly with the character. It will draw you in and you'll forget where you are. Just like you have been absorbed by it. One of the things which it draws you in is that the author chooses words that she would choose, to add to authenticity. For example, he would describe the length of time something took as, 'taking many suns to do it.'(Pg. 78) The words used in the book are very very descriptive. The end, it leaves you with more questions than answers. Like did she meet her family or how did she feel when she first came to America? I wished the book had continued and said more about the end. I liked this book because she finally gets back. This book is really a moving, sad and touching, simply a classic, story.
Book Review: Good but not Great Summary: 3 Stars
Taking place on an island in the southern pacific, Karana, the main character, goes through exciting, sad and miraculous moments. In the beginning of the book the Aleuts, the white men from Russia, come to the island to trade their beads for the islands otter. But the trade goes bad and many of the men die including Chief Chowig, Karana's father. A ship with white sails appears and all of the tribe gets on it. But Ramo, Karana little brother, runs back to get his spear. A storm is coming in and the captain of the ship Captain Orlov won't wait for him. So Karana throws herself overboard and swims back to the island. Now Karana and Ramo are stranded on the island. Taking the leadership of being a man Ramo sets off around the island. Worried, Karana sets off for looking for him only to find him dead surrounded by the Wild Dogs.
Now determined to kill the Wild Dogs Karana gets to work. Building houses all over the island because she's starting to think the ship may never come back. To my surprise she wounded the Wild Dogs leader but couldn't just leave him there suffering so she brought him back to one of her houses and took care of him until he was all better but he did not leave after that. He followed Karana wherever she went. Karana named the dog Rontu.
A tidal wave hits the island along with an earthquake but Karana survives them all and then Rontu Karana dog friend dies. A ship she has never seen before comes back but leaves before she can get on board. Then the ship comes back again and this time she gets on it and leaves the island for good.
The sentence structure was simple and easy to read. For example, In a short time Rontu rose to his feet and left the spotted dog where it lay. The word choice again was easy to read and not too complex. The description I thought was very detailed in most situations and gave you good images of the animals, places and people the author was talking about.
Island of the Blue Dolphins was a good book. Not the best I have ever read but still suspenseful and entertaining. The beginning I thought was the best part because to me it was the climax of the story. From there I thought it went down in the interest level and the excitement. The middle was nothing special and the ending dragged on for a long time. The boat came back about 3 times before she actually left the island. If I were the author I would have had Karana leave the island the first time the boat came back. This book I would recommend to girls who like a story that has truth to it. Fantasy readers should not read this book. I think to get the full enjoyment out of this book, readers should be 12 and under.
