Book Reviews of Jack & Jill (Alex Cross)Book Review: Good Book But On the Predictable Side Summary: 4 Stars
A Senator and young girl are killed in Washington DC and it seems that the only one who cares is detective Alex Cross. It's his city, he grew up there, and he's determined to catch the person behind these crimes, as he feels it is the same person committing both of these horrendous crimes.
With James Patterson there are no boundaries with his books. He takes you to the extreme edge of sanity and pushes just a little bit further, and then as you dangle over oblivion, he draws you back onto safe ground. His writings leave every nerve in your body frayed and jumping - what better way to judge a book! At times while reading JACK AND JILL, my heart rate speeded up and I found myself cheering for Alex Cross to finally figure out the killer's identity. Then there were other times I wasn't sure if I had pinpointed the right person behind the havoc.
Patterson remains an expert at weaving a first class mystery and leaves nothing dangling in the balance at the end of the book! After reading each of his books, I wonder how he can write another one that is better than the last, but he continues to excel. But better yet, each of his villains is more horrific than the last!
James Patterson books are definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy a good mystery and don't mind a few very graphic details, then you'll love this author!
Book Review: Don't Hesitate to pick this one up Summary: 5 Stars
Patterson once again makes another very fast paced, action, and twist filled book. The difference in his past Alex Cross novels was there was only one huge murder investigation going on. But in Jack and Jill there is two.
One involves a couple named Jack and Jill who are murdering famous people and people form the Government. Cross soon realizes that they are only practitcing for their biggest assasination yet. I'm not going to say anything but you have probably already figurd that out.
The other murder investigation going on is a murderer who is killing kids from elementary schools. I will say this, don't expect a "mature" person to be the killer if you get what i'm saying.
Towards the end around the last one hundred pages everyhting starts to unfold and nothing is slowing down as the chapters get shorter and you keep going from Jack and Jill's point of view to the Sojourner Truth School killer. Both are resolved with horrific ending and twists i guarantee you will not expect coming. I swear it.
I was a little confused with Jack and Jill and trying to figure out who was the real Jack and the real Jill but you'll be able to figure that out. I definetely recommend this one as this is the most twisted Alex Cross novel yet. If you love murder, suspense, and twists like you wouldn't beleive then definetely pick this one up.
Book Review: Blew me away Summary: 5 Stars
Patterson had delievered us outstanding books, and Jack and Jill continues the pattern with Jack and Jill. This book blew me away.Someone has killed a young black girl and there are no clues. To make matters worse, the killer is killing kids, and again no clues. Alex Cross has his hands full with these murders, but his plate will get fuller. Two killers are killing famous people in the Washington area. The FBI and Secret Service call on Cross to help catch Jack and Jill. Why do they want Cross to help? Because that's what Alex Cross does best. Catch butal and violent killers. Cross soon learns the truth behind Jack and Jill, and who thier target really is. Can Cross burn the candles at both ends as he tries to solve the murder of kids, *and* try to stop Jack and Jill? Patterson is an amazing writer. He has wonderful characters that you have to read about and you want to read about. The bad guys are so interesting, that you want to read more about them. You can't believe the things that they do, but yet, you want to read more about them. Patterson keeps the reader glued to the page with outstanding plot twists. If you haven't started this series, you have to. This is the third book in it, and they keep getting better and better. I highly suggest you read it. You won't be sorry.
Book Review: Wasn't as impressed with this outing Summary: 2 Stars
I am a huge fan of Along Came a Spider... and Kiss the Girls. I usually read this series at least once a year. Going through it, I found myself flying through the first two books. Yet for some reason, when I hit this book, it just never grabbed me. While Patterson is never really known from actually dropping enough hints for you to actually solve the crime yourself for a good "I KNEW IT!" moment, there are usually decent lead ins on multiple read throughs. With this book, it just felt off.
Both plot lines just seemed to have been half an idea each, and with the interweaving, all it did was prevent each plot line from being developed in the proper Cross fashion. The ending to me was disappointing. Everything just suddenly gives you this "Oh wait, forgot about this.." feeling in the last 10-15 ish pages.
I haven't bought any new Cross Novels since after Big Bad Wolf. I have to say that seeing the reviews for this one being so high, and London Bridges being so low (along with Cross Country), that I feel I made a wise decision. I will probably get the rest soon, just to have something new to read, but I think 17 novels in such a short time (Series started in 1993) is more about rushing the product rather than creating a quality product.
Book Review: Another excellent Alex Cross story! Summary: 4 Stars
Ok, I have to admit that this was not like 'Kiss the Girls' or 'Along Came a Spider' but it was definately an excellent book with one of my fav characters - Det Alex Cross.I can't get over how brilliantly JP can write - esp through the eyes of his characters who happen to be African-American men, battered wives etc - he always seems to know exactly how to portray them, sometimes I think he must have ghost writers! Anyway, 'Jack & Jill' is basically about a couple that are going around the streets of NY and killing famous women and men, for reasons the reader is not sure about and neither is the NYPD, therefore making the profiling very difficult. Along side these very gruesome murders are the murders of young children and Alex Cross and co and trying to figure out if they are connected or not, if so, why. Luckily for the reader, you get into the lives of the killers, so YOU know who-dun-it but you just have to wait for Alex to catch up! As per usual, JP gives the reader great twists and turns throughout the story which keeps you on your toes but luckily, with the short chapters, you want to keep reading just one more... I highly recommend 'Jack & Jill' for an explosive thriller - it will keep you up all night!
