Book Reviews of Jack & Jill (Alex Cross)Book Review: Jack and Jill Spend Too Much Time On The Hill Summary: 2 Stars
I was disppointed. The first Alex Cross Novel I read was "The Big Bad Wolfe". I loved it. It was action-packed and the short chapters left you wanting more. A quick, fun, easy read. So, I thought I'd try the other 8 novels in the series. Having seen "Kiss the Girls" and "Along Came a Spider" so many times as a movie, I thought I'd start with the third installment. I read 150 pages of "Jack and Jill" and still was not into it. I put it down and went on with life. A year later, I picked it up again, and again read 150 + pages and still nothing. It seemed like there was too much side story or detail. I liked "The Big Bad Wolfe" because it didn't have all that. I wanted to read the earlier novels to get any details or backstory I missed, but this was too much. And it seemed like Patterson was just using up pages.
I hope to try another earlier Alex Cross Novel, maybe "Cat and Mouse", but I'm done trying this one. I may eventually try the first two as well. I will definately be looking for "London Bridges" this Fall. I'm thinking I just picked a slower, more detailed Alex Cross and most are not like this.
Book Review: Getting Better... Summary: 4 Stars
Despite following the same formula that seems to have worked in his previous Detective Cross novels, Patterson has managed to establish himself nicely among the ranks of Grisham, Deaver and Harris. In "JACK & JILL," Alex Cross faces two mysteries (again). Cross is torn, though (again). Does he continue to work on the slayings of murdered school children close to his home or does he help solve what might be an assassination attempt on the President? And Alex Cross also falls in love (again). This time around, however, the detective discovers not just two serial killers but three, as one of the serial killings is being committed by a team. And he doesn't necessarily get the girl, either. In a nice change of pace, Alex Cross is tossed into the world of politics, the CIA and assassins-for-hire reminiscent of Clancy but without the techno-babble. After much disappointment in "HIDE & SEEK," I was thrilled to return to the world of Alex Cross and also pleasently surprised by the return of Soneji!
Book Review: Suspenseful and fast paced. Summary: 4 Stars
Jack and Jill is another great Alex Cross novel by James Patterson. It deals with a pair of killers who call themselves Jack and Jill and who leave witty poems after preying on the rich and famous. At the same time there is a child killer on the loose in Southeast, and Cross must face his eternal dilemma of wanting to solve Southeast murders but being assigned to higher profile investigations. And when I say higher in this case it really means higher. (The White House)This novel is really full of nail bitting suspense, the villains in this case (Jack and Jill) are actually quite fun, and make the story very enjoyable. This book is also where Alex Cross meets Christine who is his love interest in latter novels. It is kind of morbid to see Alex Cross preying on a married woman particularly with what happens at the end of this novel. ( I won't say more.) I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it. Ps. Also read Cat & Mouse it is actually better than this one.
Book Review: If this is the best our Secret Service can do Summary: 1 Stars
I can not imagine Jack and Jill not being caught after the first murder. A US Senator goes out to dinner with Jill goes back to her place is killed and no one saw who the Senator was out to dinner with? NO mention of anyone coming forward saying I saw the Senator and his date. I waited on the Senator and his date??? Then it gets even worse. A famous female newscaster is at a big party and leaves with Jack then turns up dead and no investigation of who she may have been speaking with and left with at the party??? Come on Mr. Patterson. Is the reader suppose to believe the DC police, FBI and Secret Service is this pathetic??? One other thing, Jack video tapes people on the streets of Washington. People waving and smiling. They don't show this on the news to try to get people who are on the video to come forward with information of who was video taping them on the steets.
If you like bad investigations, this is the book to read.
Lets see how Cat and Mouse goes!
Book Review: Lock Your Doors Tight-And Then Read! Summary: 5 Stars
This Alex Cross story was another good one of Patterson's. The story is very scarey as there are mulitiple homicides taking place by two very sick killers, Jack and Jill. They are out to get the rich and famous, and they will stop at nothing until their fiendish mission is accomplished.Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., homicide detective Alex Cross is called to a murder scene only blocks from his house, far from the corridors of power where he spends his days. The victim: a beautiful little girl who has been horribly beaten-and thrown in front of the elementary school Cross's son, Damon, attends. As Alex Cross tries to put the pieces of this puzzle together, the killer, or killers, strike again and again. No one in Washington is safe-not children, politicians, and even the President of the US. Alex Cross has the skills to uncover and solve details in this case. But the question here, is does he do that in time? An impossible book to lay down, as you have to see what happens next.
