Book Reviews of Jack & Jill (Alex Cross)Book Review: Jack & Jill came to Capitol Hill... Summary: 3 Stars
I am not much of a critic but I will give it a shot. It was interesting, not an edge of your seat type of thriller, but it kept a good pace. You know from the beginning who the killers are, but not really what their driving force is. So it keeps you trying to figure that out.
This was only my second Alex Cross book. I have 3 more now to read but I am not a speedy reader. It takes me a couple of weeks to get through a book with a full time job, online schooling with lots of homework, a home, husband and cats etc... But I definitely found time to read this book. It was interesting and hard to put down. I would read at night when I went to bed until I literally fell asleep and the book slipped from my hands. I give it 3 stars as it was interesting, but I have a lot more of James Patterson's books to read. One can't give them all 5 stars.
Book Review: This book is killer! Summary: 5 Stars
This was my second James Patterson book (1st was "Kiss the Girls") and I am hooked. It took me only 1 and 1/2 days to read the 466 page book. I couldn't put it down!Detective Alex Cross is back and he is stuck between two investigations: someone is killng high profile celebrities in Washington DC and someone is killing young children in the streets of Cross' neighborhood. Are these crimes connected somehow? How does Cross choose between the loyalty to his community and his civic duty to the President of the United States? With two different plots and many twists and turns and suspects to choose from, "Jack and Jill" is sure to please anyone who loves to dive into psychological thrillers. I also recommend Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lector series: Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal (to be read in that order!)
Book Review: If Mother Goose had a very bad attitude.... Summary: 5 Stars
This is my third James Patterson novel, and it held my interest with each page. This book read as two seperate novels, yet each garnered enough mystery and death to keep the tone set and to push the action along. Dr. Alex Cross is called upon to solve two cases at the same time. First, the killing of several high profile celebrities that lead up to the assasination of the President of the United States, and the murders of several black children, whose bodies are found at the school they attended. Even though the cases don't intersect, Alex uses that big brain of his to find any clues available to stop the carnage, even when fate drops him at the right place during the wrong time. Plus, Dr. Cross stays in character, which is the best compliment of all if anyone has read ALONG CAME A SPIDER and KISS THE GIRLS. Another thriller accomplished!
Book Review: Disappointing Summary: 3 Stars
The book, though entertaining, makes me feel uncomfortable because it contains too many swear-words. But that is not the worst of all.
James Patterson has built up tension at the very beginning of the book. However, he is unable to put all the pieces together in a perfect fit. After reading the book you can't help asking:
"Why so many celebrities were killed? It hardly makes sense."
"The prime motive of assasinating the president is inconsistent with what Jack thought before -- 'this is war'. Why?"
"How can a thirteen-year-old teenage know so much about Alex, even where he lives?"
Yes. You have a lot of mysteries to work out after reading the book. (You'll find more mysteries if you wish!) James Patterson is not going to tell you.
Book Review: JACK AND JILL - WHAT A THRILL! Summary: 5 Stars
With this third entry in the popular Alex Cross series, James Patterson firmly establishes himself as the master of great mystery/thrillers/suspense books. Cross returns to face the bizarre killings of "Jack and Jill." They start out killing recognizable "celebrities" of different areas, and then we realize the real target: The President of the United States. Meanwhile, children in Alex's neighborhood school district are being killed; do these murders relate? The pace as always is rapid-fire; the dialogue crisp and economic; the characterizations rich and complex. There are some really unique plot twists and the identity of Jack and Jill should come as a surprise. The Sojourner school killer likewise. This is mystery fiction at its best. Patterson just keeps getting better!
