Book Reviews of Jesus of Nazareth: From the Baptism in the Jordan to the TransfigurationBook Review: Amazing and Inspiring Summary: 5 Stars
This book showcases the deep knowledge and sharp mind of Pope Benedict XVI and also highlights the deep faith he has in Jesus Christ. He takes us on a journey from Christ's Baptism through his Transfiguration and weaves together evidence from the Old Testament as well as that of modern scholarship that casts light on who Jesus was and is today. All in all this is an enlightening read that has the power to move one to deeper faith or possibly even to conversion. I must admit that after reading through this I have considered dropping Buddhism for the Catholicism that moved my heart in my youth. This book is a must read even if you have to buy it new. Don't let the new atheists sway you into disbelief. Thank God for Pope Benedict.
Book Review: A very clear text by a master Summary: 5 Stars
Reading Jesus of Nazareth gives a person the quick impression that Pope Benedict XVI is a spiritual master, a theological expert, and a very loving person. How lucky we are to have him as our Pope in Rome!
Pope Benedict XVI uses the theological tools of the "historical-critical method" and "canonical exegesis" in order to "offer a properly theological interpretation of the Bible." Of course, he depends on the Lord to be "ordered, guided, and led by him." And by accepting both "the living tradition of the whole Church and of the analogy of faith," the Pope is able to present to the reader an intelligent and fresh look at "the mystery of God" (pages xvi, xviii, xxiii).
Book Review: Let's pray for Prairie Amma Summary: 5 Stars
I read Prairie Amma's review and wondered why Amazon posted her thoughts as a review of this book by our Beloved Holy Father. Her thoughts were clearly about the Christian Faith. And her thoughts are troubling and very sad. So I checked her other reviews and no big surprise she is not a person of Christian Faith. Her other reviews are for books on earth mothers and vegetarian recipes, etc. So we should all pray for Prairie to wish others peace instead of condemning the church that Jesus, himself, started. Especially since she has no clear understanding of that faith at all.
Book Review: Jesus of Nazareth - a jouney to meet Christ in the Scriptures Summary: 5 Stars
This is not light reading, but it is insightful, scholarly, and deeply spiritual. The Pope's understanding of Scripture in light of the traditions and liturgy of the Church, lead the reader to new and more intimate understandings of the mysteries hidden in the texts. These are not "inventions of Scripture" or private interpretations, but rather open gates to a deeper and broader understanding of the infinite love nature of God through Jesus, and His plan for the redemption of humankind. I can't wait for the second volume of Benedict's work to be completed.
Book Review: Excellent book on faith Summary: 5 Stars
This book was deep and inspiring. It offers many different viewpoints that help you think about Christ's teachings - like how do they compare with things in the Old Testament or in light of Jewish Tradition, which was very enlightening. It challenged me to think more about what being a disciple of Christ really means. It has inspired me to deepen my relationship with Christ and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to deepen their faith.
