Book Reviews of John Shaw's Landscape PhotographyBook Review: Many useful concepts, very well written Summary: 4 Stars
Highly recommended to anyone getting involved in landscape photography. Shaw covers not only the technical issues, but the artistic one's as well. I found this to be very helpful in gaining an understanding of what differentiates technically competent photos, from great photos. Shaw has a very approachable writing style as well. About the only things missing are shutter speed readings and aperture information from his sample photos. Also, the content could be a little more in-depth, given the wide range of topics.
Book Review: John Shaw's Landscape Photography is a Must Have Summary: 5 Stars
As many admirers of Shaw's work will attest, his books are not only a visual treat, but they are also packed with practical advice and are inspirational for us lesser mortals. Landscape Photography is another fine example of Shaw's approach to a photographic genre and of course, it contains a lot of great hands-on information. Too many landscape photo books focus purely on aesthetics, with little practical information for the amateur photographer. As always, Shaw delivers the how-to and the why in this book. Buy it!
Book Review: John shaws Landscape Photography Summary: 4 Stars
This book give precise and thoughtfull insites on both the technical and creative methods used to produce superior landscapes. There are numerous excellent examples. He does not get bogged down with technical trivia. I would definitly buy this book, it is a bargain. Its only shortcoming is not having a section on digital cameras that are taking over much of the market. These cameras allows instant feedback on photo results including histograms that remove all the guesswork and waiting to get film developed.
Book Review: An excellent introduction to nature photography Summary: 5 Stars
This book provides a clear step-by-step plan for getting started in nature photography. It discusses what equipment to buy, the importance of using a tripod (with images that prove the point to those who may be skeptical), film to use, viewing and storing slides and other topics such as how to film various subjects in the natural world. This book and Galen Rowell's Mountain Light are IMHO two phenomenal books to read if you have an interest in photographing nature.
Book Review: My favorite book Summary: 5 Stars
I've read about ten photography books and this one is my favorite. The text is simple, yet essential. The photographs are truly great.
I guess if someone has read "Nature Photography Field Guide" will find many things at least familiar. The photos, although great to my eye, might be found as too conventional. But thats OK with me.
I think John Shaw is the best "tutor" I could find. His books have helped me a lot to improve my photography.
