Book Reviews of Kane and AbelBook Review: Parallel Lives Summary: 5 Stars
Kane and Abel is a great thriller by Jeffery Archer, and probably his best. If you have not read Archer before, start here.
It follows two men who surname and first name combine to reveal that conflict will ensue. They are total opposites, from their childhood and upbringing, but eventually their world's draw together from an early meeting which sets the stage.
Both of the charactors are ones that you can like and each have their moments which also finds them objectionable. Neither one is perfect, which makes them perfect charactors that are real and a mark of a good book and writer. A page turner that will make you want to know what happens next.
Book Review: Very compelling Summary: 5 Stars
Archer is a fine writer and there's no denying it. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe that most of his titles feature siblings or relatives, often in conflict. And he's become very good with this plot plan. Some say that Kane and Abel is his very best stuff and it may well be true.
I will not describe the plot; that's been done by many reviewers. However, I will say that you will not get bogged down in this 550-page volume and skip ahead to the end. Archer keeps you engaged to the extent that you will want to read it word for word.
I have only read a couple of other books by this author; but I liked this one best. Outstanding author.
Book Review: Great first draft Summary: 3 Stars
The book is poorly written. The kind of novel that today could only be published through some third-rate POD company.
It is way too long, and all Mr. Archer does, throughout most of the book, is tell, tell, tell. It's all one long third-person omniscient narrative.
That said, the beginning was well done. I really cared about Abel. Until he went to the US and suddenly became boring, shallow, and spiteful.
The plot is improbable to the point of being ridiculous.
So why three stars? Because despite all its shortcomings, I still found myself wanting to know what happens next.
Book Review: All Time Favorite Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I read Kane & Abel, I was a teenager in highschool. Now that I have a teenager in highschool, I find it amazing I still consider this to be one of my top 5 favorite books. Several other reviewers have given a synopsis of the story, so I'll not duplicate their efforts. All I want to do is encourage you to read it. Jeffery Archer definitely knows how to write an epic that hooks the reader with the first line of the book. The exciting thing is that it continues to hook the reader until the very last line (which I would not recommend reading until you have read all the pages in between.)
Book Review: IF YOU READ ONE BOOK THIS YEAR, THIS SHOULD BE IT Summary: 5 Stars
Unbelievable. I haven't been reading too much lately but a friend of mine kept harping for me to read this book. After about six months of harping I finally gave in.(Trust me I just got sick of him bothering me about reading this book)
I must say, as much as I hated him pestering me about reading this book I am grateful he did. I haven't been this drawn to a book since I can remember.(The Godfather by Mario Puzo)
READ THIS BOOK!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
It's sort of a coming of age/rags to riches novel.
