Book Review: Get motivated to feed your children healthy food!

The author, like many in the alternative health field, experienced her own health crisis, and even attempted suicide. Nutrition was a key factor in her recovery. As a mother she realized how important it is to teach her child proper eating habits, as the habits children acquire at home, will be with them the rest of their lives.
In part one she explains why it is crucial to teach your children good eating habits from day one. She examines why people don't take time to eat properly, such as "I don't have time." "It's too expensive." "My children are too picky." She then addresses each objection. Bottom line is if you aren't taking the time, money and energy to feed your children healthy food, it's because you think other things are more important. This is the best and most motivating section of the whole book. It's one I should read every other month.
Part two was an overview of total health. She spends some time discussing food additives, pesticides, household toxins and microwaves. She includes lists of nutritional requirements by age. She adds some basic information on how to address common childhood illnesses. The best one was on page 141 suggesting you place warmed, fresh squeezed onion juice into the ear for instant relief of ear infections. The chapter of healthy alternatives to prepackaged foods was not very helpful because the prepackage items you can buy in one state are different than those you can purchase in another.
Part three was a decent collection of kid friendly recipes, things I would serve as snacks or for lunch. While she has a section on main dishes that has some fun recipes, there was nothing there I would serve my family for dinner. Overall I selected eight recipes that looked interesting to try. If you want a more complete selection of recipes I suggest Whole Foods for the Whole Family Cookbook and Eating for A's: A Delicious 12-Week Nutrition Plan to Improve Your Child's Academic and Athletic Performance.
Part four is mainly resources and substations. She does have a good substitute for breadcrumbs which is toasted oats, sesame seeds, and cooked brown rice.
I recently reread this book because I needed a pep talk on how important it is to take the trouble to teach my children healthy eating habits. It worked, I'm motivated!
