Book Review: Good, but....
Summary: 4 Stars
....not her best. Alexandra Cooper and her sidekicks are back. This time, they're on the trail of a serial killer with delusions of military grandeur in the middle of a July heat wave (OK...no plot spoilers). Mrs. Fairstein has been there, and done that, and sure knows how to write. Like her alter-ego, she's a blonde haired New York prosecutor, with some horrible tales to tell. This is one horrible tale......
The story gets told. One major loose end never gets tied-up, and another only half way. Still, the plot moves quite well, even if the end is predictable. I liked Mrs. Fairstein's earlier "Entombed" much better, but maybe that's a reflection on my own fascination for Edgar Allan Poe. Mrs. Fairstein is a fine storyteller, and I shall continue to read her books; She is way better than Catherine Coulter or John Grisham, a bit behind Lisa Scottoline, and nowhere near Sheldon Siegel's league. To put it another way, Alex, Mike, and Mercer are simply characters in a book; Bennie Rossato and her girls seem like real people (Hey, Lisa, when are you going to set me up with Murphy)?, and Sheldon's Mike and Rosie are old friends. Three-and-a-half stars.
