Book Reviews of Kitten's First Full MoonBook Review: Persistence Pays Off Summary: 5 Stars
Persistence pays off for this hungry kitten. She mistakes a full moon for a delicious bowl of milk. The book follows the kitten at her many attempts trying to reach a little bowl of milk in the sky. She runs, she jumps, she climbs, and she leaps but she never gets closer to her prize. However, when she finally returns home, there is a great big bowl of milk, waiting for her on the porch. I really enjoyed this book, especially the message behind the story. It shows us how determination and persistence will help us get what we want, even if we are not exactly sure on what it is that we are striving for. I also think it is a perfect read for all children. Animals have a great appeal to most children and they can relate to the message of the story. Kevin Henkes makes this quality text come to life with his black and white illustrations emphasizing the mood and setting of the night time atmosphere.
Book Review: C H A R M I N G ! ! ! Summary: 5 Stars
The world is full of unpleasant surprises for the little kitten! - Didn't we all learn about the world by making all kinds of silly mistakes? "Kitten's First Full Moon" is a sweet and charming children's story with beautiful illustrations. It reminds me of my favorite books of my childhood. Very much recommended both for boys and girls. In addition to that I suggest The Cat Who Walked Across France. For older boys and girls I highly recommend the great cat series Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 2, and for cat lovers like myself Cat Vs. Cat: Keeping Peace When You Have More Than One Cat
Book Review: I'm glad Summary: 5 Stars
Hi. During school some kids (including me) have been asked if we could be in a Caldecott reading group. In this reading group we have to read 25 of the books that were entered in the Caldecott award. At the end we were supposed to pick a book that we thought should win. My friends, Haleigh and Marissa were in a group with me. we decided to do an essay on the book Kittens First Full Moon. We did a little presantation in front of the reading class and we also shared our thoughts about the book. We even shared what we thought aboout the black and white pictures, few words and even te cute little Kitten. This reading class was fun and i hope that maybe next time (if there is a next time) you will choose the same book i did again. I had fun writing this paragraph. I really enjoy the book Kittens First Full Moon. Thank You.

Book Review: What a cute story! Summary: 4 Stars
Kevin Henkes has once again developed a wonderful fantasy story that is charming and suspenseful and the children love it! I was sure that Kevin Henkes had outdone himself with "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse", until I read this story. "Kitten's First Full Moon," is an all time favorite of my nephew's and no matter how many times we read it together we never get sick of it. After reading the story for the first time, I immediately fell in love with it! The whole suspense plot that lies within the story is very exciting for not only children, but adults also. Kitten has spotted a bowl of milk in the sky and no matter how hard she tries, she just can't seem to get to it! As stated in the book, "she chased it-down the sidewalk, through the garden, past the field, and by the pond. But Kitten never seemed to get closer." Poor little Kitten!
Book Review: Lucky Kitten! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my 3-year-old son's favorite book. He just adores it. Each time Kitten fails to get the "bowl of milk" in the sky (the full moon), the book reads "Poor Kitten!" and my son loves to repeat this: "Pooooor Kitten!" and wants to hug her each time. Then at the end, he repeats the final line after Kitten gets her bowl of milk on the stoop of her home, "Lucky Kitten!"
The book's moral is a touching one. The things that comfort you most are not found in unreachable places, but instead right here at home.
The artwork in this book is simple, which in my opinion, is one of the best types when it comes to children's books. Nothing busy or complicated, but still able to easily accommodate the story and evoke emotions from the reader.
"Kitten's First Full Moon" is rarely left on our book shelf. ;-)
