Book Reviews of Larousse GastronomiqueBook Review: Not as good as the 1988 edition Summary: 3 Stars
After comparing this newest edition to my 1988 edition I sent it back. I think attention to detailed information and instruction has been compromised in order to encompass too much in general and to make it look more like a coffee table book.
Book Review: Makes a great gift Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this book for my cousin's bridal shower. (It was on her registry.) The day it arrived, it was raining, and the book's pages got oh-so-slightly crinkled. However, it was still in ok condition to give as a gift.

Full of history definitive terms, classical techniques, this book is a must own for any student of the culinary arts. Lierally a dictionary of terms with helpful photographs and period drawings.

Larousee gastronomique is indispensable for anyone who cares about food: it is an encyclopedia of recipes, techniques and facts without which your cooking and eating will be poorer.
