Book Reviews of Lessons of Desire

Book Review: What a stinker!
Summary: 1 Stars

Gave it a one simply b/c there's no zero! I will never again buy new a book on the author's name alone! I wasted my money big time on this one! There is absolutely nothing "romantic" about this book - the heroine is a totally unlikable person and the hero comes over weak and pathetic since he likes her in the first place! I couldn't even bear to finish it! Skip this one and read some of her earlier works - I hope the next one's better but I still won't buy it new!

Book Review: Not up to her usual standard
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm not impressed. Sure, this book is well written, but the characters are awful. They're too proud, too stubborn, too self-involved to really connect with each other. Since I read romance books for the romance, this flaw presents a big problem.
While Madeline Hunter is still on my auto-read list based upon her impressive backlist, I suggest that you skip this one. The conflict between the characters prevents it from really ever getting off the ground.

Book Review: My two cents
Summary: 5 Stars

I liked it and because of some of the reviews I thought I would not. The Female lead is described as outre in a later book and I was afraid there would be paragraphs of her character stridently preaching her view point. This is not the case even if in the begining I wondered at her behavior it makes sense once a little backstory is given. Plus this author brings in characters from her other books very well. I second others in saying bring on Christian!

Book Review: Didn't seem like a romance
Summary: 1 Stars

The elements that make a perfect romance for me are sympathetic characters who overcome emotional, and plot driven obstacles to fall in love. I have not read historical romance in years because the heroes always struck me as misogynistic. This hero is not. But he still spends much of the book overcoming the heroine's independent nature. The heroine gave up too much and the hero too little for this compromise to work for me.

Book Review: a winner
Summary: 5 Stars

another winner from one of my top favorite author - as usual, written so well and always well worth the wait. I am only upset that it takes so long for her books to come out! If you have never tried her - read her Medieval stories, one of the best all times romance books out there. Madeline Hunter is a wonderful writer, her stories are well researched and each one stands on its own.
