Book Review: Lethal Ambition

Lethal Ambition is a legal thriller wrapped inside a classical "whodunit" murder mystery - a sort of Agatha Christie meets John Grisham - all the while dealing with social issues plaguing big cities all across America done in a non-threatening, rational and objective way. I simply could not put the book down, and read it from cover-to-cover in about eight hours. The plot is set in and around the greater Cleveland area, showcasing many of the city's historical and contemporary points of interest. Having spent half my life in Cleveland, I really appreciated how Swiger also included settings that were off the beaten path, sights that would not normally be found in a Rand McNally Atlas.
The main character Edward Mead came across being incredibly intelligent, funny, yet flawed. And the interplay between Mead and his wife dying of cancer were simply heart-rending. The rest of the cast of villains and politicians along with cameo appearances from local Cleveland celebrities made the story jump from the page. These characters were real people, and even though there exists a local flavor, the deep messages can be appreciated anywhere.
