Book Reviews of Lifeguard

Book Review: A Good Buy
Summary: 4 Stars

I have never read any of Pattersons books before. Yet my 12th grade art teacher said, He is a really good author, and she was right. I enjoyed the book. However after I read the first 2 chapters before purchase I was lead to believe that the plot took place on a BEACH with Ned Kelly as the LIFEGUARD...the title throws you off. None the less it was a very good read...I read it in approximately 50 hours. I read it everytime I had a chance. It has a peacful ending. Make sure you pay close attention to all the people and details throughout the book, because it all ties in and could get a little bit confusing. Over all a good read.

Book Review: Winner
Summary: 5 Stars

I have no idea why some viewers are so hostile towards Lifeguard. Top 500 reviewers give it five stars; a few,who seem to only want macho serial killers and Alex Cross, are disappointed. Why, I don't know. The book is terrific! It's warm-hearted, impossible to put down, with amusing, likeable characters you root for and an emotional, if sligfhtly Frank Capra--esque ending. Who cares if Patterson works with other authors? If the product is good-- as this is-- keep it coming! I'm not trying to make this more than it is. Lifeguard is a light, exciting, sometimes funny, always engaging summer read. If you're looking for Heart of Darkness, go buy Conrad.

Book Review: A easy read but not just the best
Summary: 3 Stars

Ned Kelly is a interesting lifeguard. He has a criminal background in a record and a family, friends that practice the same profession and he becomes entangled with a female FBI agent in a love truss. A little over the ridge but somewhat beleivable. Then he ends up rewarded for a life of small time crime. I guess it will happen at times. Just a fair read in my opionion but lets not forget all the great novels he wrote by himself. I do find it seems to be fasionable now to sponsor a new writer and I beleive this is what we have here. Well James, think up a new one and do it on your own, make your fans happy again.

Book Review: What's Going On?
Summary: 2 Stars

I seldom write a bad review, my motto being if I can't say something good...well you know the rest. In the case of LIFEGUARD, I am compelled to state that I am extremely disappointed.

First, I'm a big big fan of Patterson's and usually devour everything he writes. However, last year, I must admit I merely put up with The Lake House. I didn't love it but I easily forgave Patterson and understood his need to try something new.

LIFEGUARD did not cut it with me. I'm waiting with baited breath for the next Cross book, Mary Mary. He never goes wrong with the Alex Cross series.

Book Review: Another Terrific Quick Read
Summary: 4 Stars

As a reader who has read all of Mr. Patterson's books, I find this to be one of his better titles of late. His stories were beginning to get very predictable to me, however, with this title he has incorporated many twists and turns and come up with a splendid climax. There is also a chase scene in the book that rivals the chase scene from the film "The French Connection." I look forward to his next book, especially another one from his Alex Cross series. As always, quick, short chapters that make you want to move on to the next one. A great read!
