Book Reviews of Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3)Book Review: Loved it! Another entertaining Aisling Grey, Guardian novel! Summary: 4 Stars
It's been a long time since I read the second installment of MacAlister's Guardian novels (I think it's called Fire Me Up) and had waited patiently for the third novel to come out. After getting it, it sat on my TBR pile for some time while I reread some classics. Having now read Light My Fire, I wish I had read it sooner. I love the fact that the author keeps you in suspense as to what is coming next. Aisling Grey is a Guardian, a demon lord, a wyvern's mate and an immortal (the latter of which is thanks to being a wyvern's mate). She and her demon dog Jim have moved to London to start over and receive lessons from Nora, her mentor. She is also determined to forget about her dragon mate Drake and his betrayal. But soon, unbeknown to her, she realizes she is in big trouble. Someone wants to kill her. It has to do with dragon politics she doesn't know much about. The red dragons have declared war against Drake and they are using Aisling as bait. Also, another demon lord wants her help and is determined to get it whether she wants to help him or not. She again faces Drake. Will she be able to resist the gorgeous green dragon? But being with him will mean facing another conundrum -- her mother-in-law doesn't like her. On top of all of that, Jim is still a pain in the bum. He eats the imp monarch and now all of the imps of the world want revenge. There are several twists throughout the novel.
This is as much fun and entertaining as the previous two Guardian novels. I love the feisty heroine (a MacAlister heroine that I actually like!) and all of the characters in the book. You get to read about Jim, Fiat and Rene, the enigmatic cab driver who is always at the right place at the opportune time. To those of you who were frustrated with the fight between Aisling and Drake in Fire Me Up, I am happy to inform that the author doesn't drag out this storyline. Drake is as dark and sexy as he was in the previous two books. MacAlister wants us to believe there could be a possible future between Aisling and Fiat or Gabriel, but I do hope she doesn't go in that direction. Drake is wonderful and I'd like to continue to see him as the male lead. (I cannot resist a man with dark hair and green eyes.) There is nonstop action and there are new twists that let us know that this series will continue to be interesting in future installments. This is a great paranormal series. I like the concept of dragons. It is a refreshing change of pace from the usual creatures like vampires and werewolves. This series is not dark or too scifi-ish as the works of Kelley Armstrong, Jim Butcher, Laurell K. Hamilton, Rachel Caine and Kim Harrison, but it's a more comic paranormal romance along the lines of MaryJanice Davidson's Undead and Un-something series, only this one isn't limping along like the aforementioned series. It is great fun. So, if you enjoyed You Slay Me and Fire Me Up, you will love Light My Fire. I guarantee it. :)
Summary of Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3)Aisling Grey is juggling being a demon lord, a Guardian, and a wyvern's mate, even though she's keeping her distance from said wyvern, Drake, these days. But her presence is still required at a meeting of the green dragons. Since several attempts have been made on her life, Drake is sure to get protective of her. Which might not be a bad thing when war breaks out and all hell breaks loose-literally.
