Book Reviews of Light of the MoonBook Review: New to Ms. Rice, but will read again Summary: 4 Stars
OK, so this is romance. But it's romance in its best form - not so much man and woman meet, fall in love, and live yadda yadda yadda
No, this is romance in that lives are transformed by the guidance of a saint and a miracle or two. This is romance of the Arthurian variety, only written with a pro-female bent and in language I understand.
The setting is modern, but somehow, is timeless. It takes place mostly in France, where our heroine, Susannah, has traveled to lick her spiritual wounds. It is where Grey lives with his traumatized daughter, Sari. And it is where they all learn to live again.
Sari's mother has left, you see, and it has shattered her world, literally. Susannah's mother has also left - she died - and that shattered her world. This book is about Susannah finding life after Mom and helping Sari do the same. The romance between Grey and Susannah seems almost secondary as a plot point.
Old chapters are closed, but the story doesn't close. While the characters grow, they then step back, as a recovering person truly would. There is no "wounds are instantly healed" part of this book, but more a working at the problem until it is solved.
In the end, this is a story of hope. All of the characters achieve a new level in peace, contentment, and love (well, except for Susannah's old beau, who sounds like a turd). There is a moral of forgiveness, a strong plot driver in the form of racism (but not as you might think!), and a background of spirituality that made this book hard for me to put down.
I truly enjoyed it and would recommend it.
