Book Reviews of Living on Live FoodBook Review: Lots of great recipes Summary: 5 Stars
I have read several raw food books, and each has it's own strengths and weaknesses. The greatest strength of this book is all of the recipes. I am working towards 100% raw - sometimes for weeks I am 90% and above, and then I go off the wagon, but I'm getting there. While simple juices, fruits and salads are very important to the raw diet, sometimes more elaborate recipes are necessary for transitioning, to calm cravings, or to feed family or friends. I often have this book open on my kitchen counter following the recipes. I have only made a few from this book I didn't like, but most are very good. There are a lot of recipes that duplicate cooked food, but that can be helpful when starting this diet. I tried the enchiladas the other night, and was pleased with them. Some of my favorites are the flax crackers, spincach curry dip, carrot pecan burgers, and fudge balls. Also, the personal transformations stories with pictures were helpful, as well as Alissa's story about how she became raw. Overall, worth the money!
Book Review: Live, Live, however you pronounce it -> Alissa will lead you to Living on Live food Summary: 5 Stars
Hello: Alissa is the real deal. She is living this live food path, and taking the time, sharing from her heart, her life, her experiences & the 'whys'. My son intuitively turned his health around, from panic & anxiety attacks [at age 24!], switching from the easy U.S. standard fast food options, to "live" food, and water. little bags of raw nuts, celery, carrots, apples. That is not so difficult to prepare. If one takes the time to really really do this, & yes, this is not the way I learned to prepare 'meals', yes, different methods of food preparation, yet, do the steps in preparation to consistency Alissa notes, i.e. process long enough till the mock salmon ingredients are creamy, get the consistency Alissa describes, you too may find yourself as I did, less than a week on plan, looking in the mirror & with a SMILE, recognizing yourself for the first time in years. Classes are available in most every state for those of us who need/want instruction! This is more than a cookbook. This is about Living.
Book Review: Top Notch Summary: 5 Stars
Alissa's book "Living on Live Food" was eye opening. I had bought other books on the subject and found none of them came close to all the information in this book. I bought the book and then the DVD. I would recommend buying both together. The DVDs go into different tools to use for different recipes and how to use them. It is demonstrating how to make different recipes. There are 2 DVDs included and several hours of wathcing her make recipes for 2 ladies who own a health food store. The DVDs are entertaining as well as informative.
The book is complete in that it includes a 30 day challenge, shopping list, stories of others and how they did it, some that were successful and others that weren't and why, recipes, even pep talks. I think it was well written. I was impressed with this book and DVD combo. I'd buy another book if she wrote one in a heart beat. This book has a ton more information in it than most other raw food books and several hundred recipes.
Book Review: Very pleased with this book. Summary: 5 Stars
This is an awesome book for anyone interested in a raw food lifestyle. Not everything the author states in the book is factually correct as both my mother who is an RN and my husband who is a physicist have attested. For me, however, the value of eating this way is found in what I have experienced. I have hypoglycemia and have struggled with feeling poorly after eating. So, what Alyssa Cohen says about how you will experience freedom from cravings and highs and lows after eating, that you will feel more energized and have greater mental sharpness are all true for me.
I have also looked at other raw food books and the ingredients and recipes do not come close to being as good as the ones in this book. Not only are they easy to follow, but I liked almost every one I made.
I want to add that I discussed the raw food way of eating with my doctor - she just recommends making sure to get vitamin B12 since it is only found in animal products.
Book Review: A solid purchase Summary: 4 Stars
I have first ordered this book through the library, but now have purchased it as well. I am completely new to the raw food diet, and have been on it for the past 2 weeks with the help of this book.
With this said, here are the pros and cons of the book in my opinion:
PROS:
- delicious recepies
- good explanation of what can and cannot be eaten, how to sprout, good charts
- entertaining way of writing, makes you want to try this way of eating and motivates enough to stay on it.
CONS:
- very bulky book, and while the pictures are great, I believe they could've printed on other paper
- too many real life stories of people on the diet, feels kind of like an ad
I recommend this book to anyone starting out on the raw food diet, it really does have great recepies, some of which are whipped up in matter of minutes if you have the right equipment (processor).
