Book Reviews of Living on Live Food

Book Review: Great Information, awful book!
Summary: 5 Stars

My only issue with this book is the book itself. Allissa says she selected the style and type for usefulness--to allow for noting variation of the recipies on the page margins . I find It is way too big, heavy and the glossy pages are slippery. Not everyone has a huge kitchen to lay out a book of this size to refer to while fixing food. As a beginner, I read through it often and really wish it had a smaller size and lighter weight.

Aside from this, the information within Allisa's book is great! I would really recommend her CD as well since you actually see the preparation of some of the recipes which shows how really easy they are to make.

Book Review: Can this book be any BIGGER??
Summary: 3 Stars

First off, this book is SO big you would think it was packed, but by using glossy thick paper and ALOT of wasted space (supposedly for notes) it wastes alot of paper.
Second, I have yet to try a recipe that I have liked. ALOT of nuts and dates, very high in sugar, natural/raw or not, fat and sugar is fat and sugar.
Third, to end on a positive note, there is alot of info if you are just starting raw eating with testimonials, however only the ones that had a great experience with it are there, not the ones that didn't feel any different or who actually gained weight from all the fat and sugar. So much for ending on positive note LOL.

Book Review: If you could only purchase one RAW book...
Summary: 5 Stars

Unfortunately this was the LAST raw book I purchased. I wish I had found it sooner, it would have saved me tons of money on all of the other raw books I purchased that collect dust on my bookshelf (I have about 10). This book has it all: everything you need to go raw and stay raw. The recipes are fantastic. There is something for everyone. If you like heavy foods, light foods, sweet food, spicy foods. Also, Alissa Cohen has an online forum where you can chat about raw and share your favorite recipes. It's called "raw food talk". I can't type the url here but do a Google search and you'll find it.

Book Review: Raw is Good
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading Ms. Cohen's book cover-to-cover I came away thinking "This is doable". The book is a quick read (weighs a ton) and is easily understood. I appreciate the references, suppliers, weblinks, and contacts included with this publication. She even left spaces in the margins for personal note-taking.

If I had to come up with a suggestion about this book it would be to publish it with wirebinding. I will definitely be referring to this book with regularity. Wire-binding would allow it to lie flat and give ease of use (like I said, it really weighs a ton).

Book Review: Great place to start!
Summary: 5 Stars

Whether you are just curious about raw food or ready to jump in to the raw food world, Alissa's book is a great place to start! It's inspiring, motivating, educational and practical. I "devoured" the first part of the book on a long flight - and could hardly wait to try some recipes. I've found some great new favorites! The "Mock Salmon Pate" is quick and easy and has been frequently requested by some of my "non-raw" friends! I found the quick reference charts to be extremely helpful as I started my raw food journey. Alissa makes the transition to live foods easy and do-able!
