Book Review: Rather weak for a LP-guidebook

I have dozens of Lonely Planet guides in my bookshelf and still use them on most of my travels abroad and although standards did change over time (quite a natural thing if you develop from an independent publisher into a world-brand), I still think that LP is the most reliable travel guide on the market - especially if you travel to developing countries (so not that useful for Australia anyway).
However, using the LP "Australia" on a six-week trip 2010, I have to say that this is the weakest LP I have used so far. First of all, the listings of accomodation and restaurants seem to be more like in a phone book, rather than really useful advice - but anyway, squeezing an entire continent in a single book without omitting places of interest might be an impossible task (I do not guess that the LP "Europe" is much better in this respect).
But what I found even more interesting is how uncritical the 'Australian'-LP seems to be when it comes to writing a guide about its own county - if you buy a LP about let's say for example Egypt or China, the main concern of these books (besides having a great trip and staying in decent places) are for instance 'how to avoid running into a ripp-off?', or 'what's the ethnic minority situation in this country?'.... well travelling through Australia, I did not have the impression that the aboroginal population has de facto great access to mainstram Australian society (whatever the causes may be, but still an issue broadly touched in ohter LPs is here mostly omitted) ... and for example some places (like the Ayers Rock resort where they charge you insane prices for a beer) which would cause an 'LP-rip-off-outcry' in other parts of the world are reviewd quite neutrally (would have taken the beer along if I would have known that they charge you double than in Alice springs...).
I wouldn' say that the book is intentionally biased about not so positive things on a trip to Australia (and 99,9% are positive anyway), I just found it interesting how the view changes if you look in your own mirror.
