Book Reviews of Lonely Planet China (Country Travel Guide)Book Review: Completely INcomplete Summary: 3 Stars
I own both this version and the previous one and while it is useful for finding hostels, the maps are VERY inaccurate and usually not to scale at all. Often they will have just ONE district of a city and talk about the map as if it is the complete map.
I have been to many of the cities, Harbin, Kunming, Shenzhen, and on. Their map shows like one CORNER of the city and they talk about the map as if it is complete.
With very few Subway maps, very few Bus route maps, and very little in-depth information this is NOT a China 'Guide' in the sense of any of the previous guides.
Book Review: Chief Buzzard Summary: 5 Stars
Have traveled and backpacked in China for 3 weeks for the past 3 years and will be leaving for another adventure with these wonderful people in December. This is the third edition of this book I have used. Wouldn't travel overseas ANYWHERE without a Lonely Planet guide book. This edition with the additional maps is outstanding.
Book Review: Seems very complete Summary: 3 Stars
I ordered this with a trip to China planned, but I haven't gone yet so I am not sure ow helpful this will be. Some of the locations/hotels on our itinerary are not in the book, but with such a large country this is to be expected. Hopefully, I can edit this when I return from China.
Book Review: Very Helpful! Summary: 4 Stars
As usual, Lonely Planet leads the way for straightforward travel advice. Personally, I like to travel with a mix of planning and leaving it up to chance. This guide is great for sparking ideas and pointing you in the right direction.
Book Review: Great guide! Summary: 4 Stars
As usual... another great guide from Lonely Planet. It's a pity that they do not update the guide in Spanish so often too...
