Book Reviews of M-Business: The Race to MobilityBook Review: B2E needs streamlining Summary: 4 Stars
Prof. Kalakota's latest book , M-Business, is a very interesting reading. I particularly liked Chapter 9, the B2E environment is where mobility can have a big impact. I wish the chapter was longer with more in-depth coverage of business processes, how they can be streamlined and integrated with mobility. The scenerio of the Fortune 50 VP trying to get her child picked up is appropriate. In Chapter 2, the authors made a comment that there are too many WLAN standards.Which is true at the radio frequnecy level. Out of which only the 802.11 is appearing as the winner as it is the oldfriend Ethernet. Right now 802.11b network equipments are selling like hot-cakes,I was told. IEEE is also making sure that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi work together. Bluetooth has several limitations: limited number of radio devices, very short range. On the other hand it consumes one tenth the power. The advantages for Wi-Fi are: based on Ethernet, longer range, unlimited number of devices. Disadvantages are :security
Summary of M-Business: The Race to MobilityThe business world is silently undergoing yet another tectonic shift - from Web to mobile, or m-commerce. This title lays out the next generation of business models and the architecture of enterprise applications that will succeed the tethered PC-age. It helps readers imagine the possibilities of having a desktop PC in your hand. It is intended to be both strategic and business orientated, explaining "why" rather than "what" or "how to". The book is also designed to be a definitive roadmap for the practice of business strategy in a world transformed by mobility. It builds on the authors' prior work in leading edge e-commerce and e-business, analyzes best business practices, and sheds light on what works and what doesn't work in the mobile economy.
