Book Review: Vacationland

This Atlas and Gazetteer is excellent in the ease of format, describing special sites such as camping, hiking and swimming in a separate section at the front of the book. Plus explaining each icon printed on the map pages. The grid on the back cover and also pg 4 shows the entire state in numbered blocks that make the area searched easy to locate. Each page is clearly printed with an excellent written description of each area. Roads are named or numbered with little guess work. Maine's unusual coastline is very easily understood and makes navigating from one place to another not difficult. Of the hundreds of peninsulas along the coastline one can find clearly marked which peninsula ends at which area one is searching. This atlas takes the guess work out of driving in Maine. Small roads off the main highways are marked with route numbers or names. Small towns are printed clearly, plus each county and its boundaries are marked in contrasting color. The pages at the back of the Atlas also include enlarged detailed maps of popular towns and the city of Portland with streets clearly named and special areas marked.
This is an excellent resource for those who rely on maps to get around the state of Maine. DeLorme has done an outstanding job of creating a very usable Atlas.
