Make Your Own Damn Movie is an interesting look into low budget, independent filmmaking that is bound to have at least a few tips and tricks for all beginners as well as experienced filmmakers that think outside the Hollywood box. By using his own past experiences, Lloyd Kaufman pulls together instructions and examples on every part of the independent filmmaking process, all while giving an interesting look into the history of his production company, Troma Entertainment, Inc. The book takes you from writing the script to pre-production and funding all the way through production, editing and distribution, etc. As a no budget filmmaker myself, I found a lot of helpful tips and anecdotes in the book, and more importantly, had a good time doing it. Mr. Kaufman's writing is fun and energetic, with several laugh-out-loud moments along the way. Of course, it helps if you have a crude (and in some cases even vulgar) sense of humor, because that is Lloyd's humor. Some may find the endless amounts of footnotes and sidetracking a little tiresome, but if you're easily distracted as I am it actually works for you in most cases. This book is an informative and funny guide for anyone wants to make their own damn movie!
