Book Review: Dog Tails have never been Funnier

The best shaggy dog story not written by James Herriot, and far more readable than the dog stories of Albert Payson Terhune, which you couldn't read without a dictionary. John Grogan might catch Dave Barry if he stuck to humor. I've owned 4 Seeing Eye dogs, 2 of them Labradors, the breed Marley was. One tried to run off with a pair of my wife's unmentionables, hoping to shred them, until I caught him at it. I thought nothing a dog did could make me howl with such uncontainable laughter--until I read of Marley's many exploits in this book. One of the few sad moments in this book serves to illustrate the comforting power a good dog can exert over his owners. Our dogs have stayed close to us at our most sorrowful moments, showing us that with a dog, nothing can be as bad as it seems. As usual, the book is far better than the movie, and the book caused less controversy over nothing, than the movie did. Follows the growth of the author and his family through the life of their best friend, Marlye.
