Book Reviews of Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook

Book Review: Beautiful book, difficult for the beginner with basic gear
Summary: 4 Stars

I feel like I have an average stocked kitchen, however I do not own a "pastry blender" as the first recipe I tried called for, and there were no suggestions as to what to do without one. I can't imagine this is a common kitchen item. Additionally, I was upset to find that some of the recipes with hard to find ingredients did not offer alternatives, and though Living Magazine gives sources as how to find these materials via the internet or phone, the book does not. Additionally, I was frustrated that the book has a hard time staying open on it's own, due to it's binding. I know that there are cookbook holders that would help, but it seems like Martha would be more practical.

However, the book itself is beautiful, and a pleasure to look at. Even my husband noticed, and he has zero interest in cooking. I do enjoy looking at it, and was pleased that it was not all the same recipes from the magazine.

Book Review: Great Addition to any book shelf

I was so pleased with this book when it came! It has everything from cakes to bagels! As someone who thinks of baking as a hobby like I do this book is just good fun altogether. I haven't baked anything out of this book yet but the first thing I am planning to make is the focasia, bagels and homemade margherita pizza! the layout of this book is great the instructions are clear and everything you need might already be in your cupboards or pantry! It's a great price on here too! Before I bought this book I looked at Martha Stewart's cooking school at Barnes and Noble and I got sticker shock! It was $45 and this one was $40! As a person who might be interested in a new hobby such as baking this is the book for you, and as a person considering going to culinary school like I am this book provides a clear head start for someone about to jump into a baking career :D I can't speak more highly about this book!

Book Review: My First Matha Stewart Book
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a Martha Stewart Fan ever since I was a kid, but this is the FIRST and ONLY Martha Stewart Book that I have ever had! I've seen all of her other books in the school library I've never had the urge to buy those like I had when I saw that this book is release.

I can't put it down since I first read it! The money I saved up for it is absolutely worth it! There are tons of step by step pictures and descriptions which are very much helpful for me, an amateur baker, coz they are very precise and acurate sometimes I don't read the desciption I just look at the step by step photos and I get what the instruction is.

I've been baking for many years I made my first apple pie following the recipe from this book and its good! I also tried the white chocolate chunk buterscotch cookie which was a big hit during my family vacation during the holy week! More power to you Martha!

Book Review: Great to give, great to receive.

Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook is a stunning and impressive tome that is user friendly, chock full of all the information the home baker needs to get inspired, get organized, get started and get better. I gave it to my neice for Xmas and she loved it. Using classic Martha style, I laid the handbook on top of a baking sheet lined with a sil-pad, tied them together with red ribbon, then attached a big bow with a Xmas tree shaped cookie cutter affixed to it. My neice responded in kind by giving me a Martha inspired food basket on New Year's eve. It was lined with a vintage dish towel, filled with wine, cheese, fresh fruit and scrumptious herb bread that she learned to bake from Martha's handbook. Of course, my neice included a laminated copy of the recipe, a tip that Martha has shared many times. Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook is a great gift anyway you slice it.

Book Review: Wish I Had This Book Four Years Ago!
Summary: 5 Stars

I started baking after 9-11 thanks to Martha Stewart. It was something I had never done before and I was already in my late 50's! I wish I had a copy of this wonderful book back then. It has photos of all the pans, wisks, and everything else you will need for your kitchen to help you become a real baker. The color photographs are wonderful. It is a book I will give people who want to bake but haven't before. It's a real hands-on masterpiece. My amazon copy came a couple days too late for me to have it autographed at my local Williams-Sonoma, but I am sure I'll have a chance at some point to have Martha sign my edition. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to bake homemade treats in their kitchen but feel they can't. You can! Martha makes it happen! Her TV shows and cookbooks made a baker out of me! And believe me, that's saying something.
