Book Reviews of Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook

Book Review: Pleased with this book
Summary: 5 Stars

Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook is a wonderful book. It is full of answers to questions I've always had, like why baking powder instead of baking soda, why a wooden or plastic spoon and not metal...

As usual though, there are some recipes that just don't work. I am a very epxerienced cook, professional baker, and food lover. Every book of Martha's that I own (at least 7) has at least a few recipes that just cannot possibly be right. I attempt them several times, following instrudtions to the letter, share them with an experienced friend or two, and they get the same results as I do. I still love the book, but I'm always prepared for the recipe to not come out correctly.

Book Review: INCREDIBLE EDIBLE RECIPES!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book came out at a perfect time for me. I no longer cook like I once did when raising my six children, but I still enjoy baking. But after a lifetime of baking chocolate cakes, pineapple-upside-down cakes, muffins, pies--you know, the usual fare--I wanted to try something different.

And thanks to the fabulous Martha Stewart, I'm ready to open a fresh bag of flour and scatter it on my kitchen counter like fairy dust, hoping to conjure up tasty dishes like she does. With 200 recipes to choose from, I'll be keep pleasing my grandkids for a very long time.

One question I have for Martha: IS THERE NOTHING YOU CAN'T DO? And ONE remark: Thanks for the book.

Book Review: Techniques simply explained.....
Summary: 5 Stars

Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook will become a favorite go-to resource for everything baked. The illustrations and technique instructions are very helpful. I wouldn't say this is a book for the beginning baker as some of the terminology and descriptions assume some baking knowledge; but for someone who is already comfortable in the kitchen this is a wonderful guide to every category of baking. I like how beyond the basics of each technique or recipe she takes it a bit further with a twist on the traditional - the semi-sweet chocolate coating layer on the crust of the coconut cream pie, for example. I think this is a great well-rounded addition to any cook's library!

Book Review: I'll be covered with flour on the weekends...
Summary: 5 Stars

After spending two hours curled up by the fire last night, and flipping through each exquisite page of this book, all I can say is that I'm clearing my calendar for the next six months of weekends so I can make each and every thing is this delightful book. Martha's -- and her staff's, for that matter -- attention to detail is unfailing and results in perfect finished products. The pages are sumptuous in the hands, the pictures are enticing and so realistic you can almost smell the baked goods and feel their fresh-from-the-oven warmth. I've tried a few of the recipes and can testify to their elegance: often times simple, always impressive, and absolutely delectable.

Book Review: My Baking Bible...
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is everything I expected it to be - fabulously attractive, great photographs, and delicious recipes. I was a little worried that Martha would send me off on a wild goose chase for too many arcane and high-priced ingredients, but that has proven not to be the case. These recipes are straightforward and simple. The book showcases a wide variety of baked goods, but mostly consists of treats that are reasonably well-known by all. This is exactly what I needed in my cookbook arsenal, and I can already picture handing it down to my children (who are 3, 2, and 10 months!)so I am jotting my own notes in the margins. Definitely a keeper.
