Book Reviews of Mastering the Nikon D700

Book Review: A Prettier Manual
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this book to better understand my D700, but found it little better than the Nikon manual. In several areas where the Nikon manual is completely uninformative, this book merely refers to the manual (i.e. Screen Tips (d3)). This book was not written for the typical D700 purchaser who probably already understands Depth Of Field. The authors deem it necessary to repeat the detailed instructions for entering text in a couple of places in the book. In the end, I had to buy other books to get a feel for when and why one setting would work better than another.

Book Review: Best D700 guide available to date
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far the best Nikon D700 guide available to date. With clear writing, great illustrations and menu instructions, and plenty of person experience, it is clear that the authors know their business and are happy sharing it with the rest of us. There is no comparison between this and the Magic Lantern Guide for example, and the Digital Field Guide for the D700 is just far too incomplete.

This is a great manual, and you will find yourself leaving it on your coffee table and referring back to it from time to time as you make your D700 your own.

Book Review: In Great Detail!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great book with fantastic detail on the D700. I have had this camera since Oct08 and this book still brought out some new capabilities I had over looked. The plain English is great too!

I also belong to the Nikonians organization (since 02) and its the best resource for you if you're a Nikon user.

I write these words in all honesty even though I was pleasantly surprised that two of my images grace the title pages of chapters one and eight :-)

Book Review: Way better than the user's guide
Summary: 5 Stars

This author is an excellent writer. I really appreiciate that he not only does an excellent job of explaining how to make all the settings the Nikon D700 is capable of, but he also gives his opinion on what would be the right settings to make for different kinds of subject matter.
There are full color pictures of every possible menu setting & everything is clearly understandable.
After reading this book, the only thing left to do is: Get Off Your Butt and Use Your Great Camera.

Book Review: OK book
Summary: 3 Stars

The book is comprehensive and covers every item in the menu of the D700. In that sense it duplicates the Nikon's D700 manual. However, it does explain the menu items a little bit better. What it often lacks is how and when to use the various menu items. OK, so I now know what this menu items does, but under what conditions would I want to use it. What is the effect? Since three quarters of the book is a description of the menu items, it makes for a boring read.
