Book Review: Great book with wonderful recipes... but the errors do stand out!
Summary: 4 Stars

McCormick is still a great fish house where you can get a high quality, delicious meal. I particularly love their caesar salad with fried calamari on top and my husband adores their stuffed salmon with crab and brie. When I saw that the cookbook had the recipe, I jumped on it and bought my copy. Imagine my surprise to see that the recipe actually had Halibut, not salmon in the ingredients list. Thumbing through the book, I noticed several errors, but it is what it is.

I am a bit annoyed with the book because of the errors, but I'm a decent enough cook to figure out what the error is and can correct them on my own. Errors aside, it's no reason not to buy the book. If you have a brain and can use it in the kitchen, you'll figure out the errors. No big deal.

What really annoys me is the entire marketing and sales pitch that you get now when you visit a McCormick & Schmick. My husband and I dined there for a meal recently and we were interrupted by the waiter trying to get us to join their "Club". We politely declinted. Later, he came back and again asked, only this time he said if we joined, we could get a copy of the cookbood at a discount. Again, we declined. We were slightly annoyed. When we left we were asked a THIRD time - finally, I had enough and was rather impolite when I called over the manager.

McCormick used to be a relaxing, layed back seafood restaurant with great food, good oysters and a nice wine selection. You could always count on a fantastic meal and the fact that they pressure the wait staff to be their sales pitch people really is annoying and it's also a good way to drive out customers. I've been going to McCormick for about 15 years. Since our experience, we've not been back and I'm not sure we ever will.

I guess that's the price you pay for expansion. It is no longer about the food.. it's about their sales and marketing pitches. Ugh!
