These cards are very well done. I used them throughout my med school course along with my class lectures and another text (Lange). I liked having a single card for all the important bugs with a little picture there and a clinical vingette. The flow charts for identifying certain organisms were also useful to have on each card, and likewise, the mechanistic explanation of how each infection occurs were very good. There are also little tips on some of the cards, like "Remember, 5 major causes on neonatal meningitis..."
The downside to the cards is that you don't really separate the zebras from the big boys conceptually. In other words, you have 1 card for E. Coli and 1 card for Eastern Equine Encephalitis - you have to either annotate your important cards with extra details or use them only as a supplement to your primary study source. In a book, you might have a whole chapter on HIV or TB, and it'll tell you that certain things are less important, although it will also give you those details if you want them. Also, mechanistic explanations of infections only go so far. In the end so many things get into the blood and go to certain places seemingly at random that you just have to memorize that X bug causes arthritis or Y bug causes meningitis. So the mechanistic style of the cards mainly helps conceptually along with the pictures and flow charts to put a face on each organism in the beginning, and to remind you of certain big points, but they aren't a complete source for exams or the Shelf.
I primarily used Lange to study for the shelf, and frankly there's a lot of points I would have missed if I had only studied the cards...both on specific bugs and on more general topics like bacteriology, various antibiotics, mechanisms of viral reproduction, etc. The cards do not cover these topics like a review book will. And you're not going to get the names of receptors for certain viruses, or the full explanation of all a bug's virulence factors, if you're wanting those details. This was not what I expected of the cards, so I still enjoyed them, but it isn't exactly how they're marketed either - ie, as a primary study source for the USMLE. Still, I'm glad I had my set and would recommend getting some to go along with another source like Lange or CMMRS.

These flashcards will help medical students organize and recall medical microbiology information for course exams and USMLE Step 1. The cards are grouped into sections on gram-positive, gram-negative, and other bacteria; RNA and DNA viruses; fungi; protozoa; and helminths. Each section begins with charts summarizing key information on the group of microorganisms, followed by cards for each individual microbe, which include clinical presentation, pathobiology, diagnosis/treatment, quick facts, and a case study. Schematic illustrations show the morphology and pathogenesis of different microorganisms.
