Book Review: I'm not always sure artists are the best sources...
Summary: 4 Stars
As am artist myself, I often find that we artists write anything that makes sense only after we have the hindsight to see what we were doing. This collection almost proves that point single-handedly. I bought this collection mostly because I wanted a translation of "Du Cubism" by Metzinger and Glieze. Whether the translation is just difficult or the original French is also as difficult, I found it a bit revisionistic and clearly a defense of the Cubism movement. I should have stuck with Apollinaire. Kandinsky, a clearly a more prolific writer, is much more enjoyable. Overall, the words of the artists of the period are interesting, but better information about their art and process can be found elsewhere unless one is looking for the words of the artists themselves.
