I love this book. Compared to Nicolaou's Classics this is a coffee table book. It is beautiful in its presentation, with a plethora of pictures and artwork throughout. Each succinct chapter is exceedingly interesting, with detailed historical accounts of the molecule and the personalities involved.
Ultimately, this is why I love the book: the author's have managed to present the people involved in the discovery, and synthesis of molecules that have changed the world in an accessible way and in an artful format. My already intense interest in organic chemistry has multiplied after reading a couple chapters. If you're at all interested in the history of organic chemistry, especially if you're a graduate student working with natural products, you'll really enjoy the book. If you can balance it, a chapter during a column is manageable.
