Book Review: Book is average to good. DVD was severely lacking.
Summary: 3 Stars
My son and I were extremely excited when we purchased this kit from a local bookstore. We enjoy leaving our tips for waitstaff in various origami forms. We were looking to expand our repertoire with this book.
The diagrams in the book are better than average. It was a little hard to tell by lines alone which was the valley fold and mountain fold as sometimes the illustrations were small.
There are times when I believe a little more instruction was needed for some of the more difficult models. As to the DVD. I had assumed that the DVD would include ALL of the models contained within the book. It DOES NOT. It only includes the X Wallet, Eye Ring, Stand Up Shirt, Mr. Bill Green, Talking Monkey Ring (called Monkey Face Ring in book), and Plaut's Woven Triangle (called Three-Dollar Step Pyramid in the book). This means the DVD is MISSING Angel Ornament, Four-Dollar Tall Box, Haverhill High-Top Shoe, Five-Pointed Five-Dollar Star, Dollar Bill Butterfly, Cube Box with Lid, Jumping Frong, George Napkin Ring, Business Card Holder, Paper Airplane, Rectangular Box with Lid, Chinese Dragon/Sea Serpent, Thistle, and Wheel of Fortune.
The one model I felt could really benefit from a video was the butterfly. This is made very different than the butterfly made with square paper and many of the steps are a bit confusing. I believe myself to be an advanced beginner to intermediate and I was having major issues understanding the directions for this particular model. I believe a video would have really helped. It would have been nice if the packaging noted that only a few of the models would be included on the DVD. Had I known, I may not have purchased this kit.
