Book Reviews of Monkey: Folk Novel of ChinaBook Review: Rereadable! Summary: 4 Stars
I'm reading this entertaining book for the sixth time. I met it over thirty years ago in a college class, and now my own students read it in Literature of the Non-Western World.
Enjoy some music that somehow fits the book: Alan Hovhaness's Mountains and Rivers Without End.
Book Review: More than a fairy tale Summary: 5 Stars
Hsi Yu Chi represent the introduction of Buddahism to china. It also suggests the superior of buddahism to Taoist elements and believes (much like greek mythology). This Book suggests the idea of forgiveness, purity, and kindness as important human achievements.
Book Review: Funny, moralistic folk tale. Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter had this book for a reading assignment during thanksgiving break and I had to get a copy for myself plus another one to share. Anyone reading Monkey will identify with the main character at some point, if not throughout, the book. Highly recommended.

Book Review: simple yet blissful Summary: 5 Stars
An easy read written in a simplstic fashion yet remains enthralling. The religious factor in the book is strong how ever not over whelming. A whitty satire on the beauracracy of the chinese.
