Book Reviews of Mr. New York's Trivia QuizBook Review: What DOESN'T Mr. Barbieri know about New York? Summary: 5 Stars
There's not much he doesn't know. In fact, seems John Barbieri knows just about everything about New York City. At first I thought the title, "Mr. New York's Trivia Quiz" was a bit presumptuous, then I read the introduction and realized Mr. Barbieri does not claim to be Mr. New York. But skimming through more that 500 pages of trivia about the City he calls "the capital of the world," I begin to think he might legitimately lay claim to the title. There is tons information here, on a wide variety of topics. I'm a native New Yorker, and I come from a family of journalists who think they know NYC. But I managed to stump them more than a few times with this book. We've had a lot of fun with it. In addition to the trivia questions, there are also quotes from famous NY'ers, and extra info about the city in the form of "Triv Bits." It's hard to believe any one person could know this much about the city. The back of the book says this guy's a trial attorney, but you'd think he is a history professor. I am definitely bringing this book on vacation with the family. My only complaint about the book is that it lacks and index. Then again, an index in a book this comprehensive might take another 500 pages. However, it's divided up by subject (history, politics, sports, architecture, etc.) so it's not difficult to find the topic that interests you most. This is a great read for anyone who loves the city, or for friends planning on visiting New York.
