Book Reviews of Mrs. PerfectBook Review: Bold, Touching, REAL Summary: 5 Stars
Jane Porter has a knack for character development that is far above what is typical in the "chick lit" and "mommy lit" genres. In fact, I am not sure she belongs in those limiting genres at all.
Porter's Odd Mom Out/Mrs. Perfect books are a deep and satisfying body of work. The stories focus on many of the same characters but from different perspectives and providing unexpected insights at every turn. It seems obvious that there is more inside a person than what defines them externally: income, social groups, clothing, makeup, hair, botox, number of children, employment, etc. What Porter does is reveal what else is there, without beating you over the head with it, and she tells the stories so they reveal how the deep inside of a person relates to and influences the external "skin" they live in.
I love that her books show the importance of healthy self esteem, true friendship, and the love we have for our spouse and children. The books are also fun; how else would I see inside the lives of the well heeled? : )
Book Review: You Can't Go Wrong Summary: 5 Stars
Like some of the other reviewers, I had a REALLY hard time liking Taylor. Really. Hard. At one point, I put the book down, because I thought, "I can't stand this lady." Two minutes later, I picked it up again, for the simple reason that Jane Porter is a master at writing. Truly. It's takes a lot of talent to create a protagonist who can inspire such strong emotion in her readers. Jane Porter writes characters you can't forget, and at the same time you want to smack them, you can't help but feel for them.
She makes you wonder about these characters when you don't have the book in your hand; she makes you think about them long after the book is done.
I didn't feel like I was "reading" a book, I felt like I was talking to a friend, listening to her ups and downs, to her successes and failures, and most of all, being inspired by her personal growth.
Book Review: A Must Read Book and Author!! Fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
Jane Porter is one of the best authors today!! I have read Every one of her books and they are all Fantastic!! Jane is so good at bringing you right into the story that you feel like you know all of the characters personally!! 'Mrs. Perfect' is a follow up to her other highly engaging book 'Odd Mom Out' which is so much fun you won't be able to put it down either!! You must read her books - The Frog Prince, Flirting with Forty, Odd Mom Out, and Mrs. Perfect. I Highly Recommend all of these books to every woman who loves to read fun, witty, and feel good books without all of the unnecessary fluff!! I have passed the word of these books to every one I know ( and even some I don't!! ) as they are some of the best. Jane is a natural born story teller - you will Not be disappointed, but you might find a new favorite author, just like I have!! Enjoy!!
Book Review: PERFECT! Summary: 5 Stars
After finishing Flirting with Forty, I rushed out to get Odd Mom Out and was happily surprised that Mrs Perfect was also sitting on the shelf beside it. I got both that day.
I have to say. I didn't like Taylor in Odd Mom Out. And yet... even though I didn't like Taylor for the first 1/4 of Mrs Perfect... I devoured the book in a night!
I think that by not initially liking Taylor made me appreciate her more by the end of the book and watching her overcome so many obstacles in her path. I mean... once Jane put that wench into her life... I was wanting to see how Taylor was going to get through it all.
Wonderful book!
Book Review: Excellent, her best book yet. Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoyed Odd Mom Out, but this book was much better. I read it last night in one sitting, staying up just past midnight. She did a great job of making a character who is not immediately loveable, very relatable and I was rooting for Taylor all the way through....loved how she grew and changed and developed a very different relationship with Marta.
I look forward to her next book...which I think is another character from Odd Mom Out as well.
This book reminded me a little of Emily Giffin's second novel, Something Blue. If you liked that, I suspect you may enjoy this as well.
