Book Review: Values of our Childhood Now Outdated

Reading these Mrs. Piggle Wiggle stories to my own kids was a kind of Proustian experience. Not having thought of them for 35 years, I remembered every word, every name ("Yes Hearthrug dear...)" only now perhaps I understand Betty McDonald's wonderfully ironic sense of humor. ... In the 50s, perhaps these books worked on levels available to both children and their parents; today, unfortunately, they only stand as a kind of sad reminder to parents who have actually GROWN OUT of the "normal" violence of a thankfully past age. Publishers reprint famous books that sold well in the past; here, they're banking on our memory of the titles to keep these books profitable for them. They don't care, obviously, about their message. Reading them as adults, however, we should realize it's time to retire Betty McDonald's assumed value system. "Ramona" is flat-out annoying, but at least she teaches kids better expectations for relationships between men and women.

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is a great book. The author is Betty MacDonald. The book is about a lady who is magic. She goes to kids and all the kids have a problem with manners. Some are bad listeners, whiners, and so on. It is a fantasy story.
The big part of the story is when Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle starts helping out all the children with bad manners. For each kid with bad manners she has a cure. She loves to play pretend and be funny. All the kids, after she cured them, had wonderful imagination and have proper manners. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is always happy and loves children.
I recommend this book to all kids six years old to kids that are nine years old, also to people who love humor and Fantasy. This book will boost the kid's imagination after they read the book. This book is full of humor. It was a great book to me and hopefully to you!!

Book Review: Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is the Best Teacher

I read my copies of Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books to shreds as a child, and I still love to reread the stories today. The books contain valuable lessons for children; and though some are more magical and fun than others, all are well done with regards to capturing children's attention in a unique manner and making them want to improve themselves by fixing their own problems. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is truly a brilliant and clever teacher, using extremely creative teaching techniques in presenting values, morals, and good habits for children to emulate, develop, and strive for. This book, though not particularly subtle as far as the lessons it tries to impart, is fantastic with regards to children learning something from their storybooks.
