Book Reviews of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle

Book Review: Excellent at age 8 and again as I share with my little one
Summary: 5 Stars

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle was a book that I enjoyed tremendously at age 8 when it was read aloud to me by my third grade teacher. Every day the entire class looked forward to hearing another chapter describing the shennanigans of some child that was having issues that we were having at that time (ie didn't want to go to bed, didn't want to eat, didn't want to clean up your room etc...).

At 32 years of age, I once again am enjoying Betty MacDonald's creative way of capturing her audience with fun filled stories as I share them with my little one. This is a classic, along with anything by Beverly Cleary or Judy Blume.

Book Review: Really Stands the Test of Time
Summary: 5 Stars

I started reading aloud to my students years ago as a technique to calm them after recess and P.E. classes. Throughout my long teaching career, I have read this book to probably thousands of children. I am about to retire, but the kids today seem to love this book as much as they did thirty-seven years ago when I first began teaching. That is truly remarkable and goes to show that children never really change though their surroundings do. Many of my students love this story so much, they check out other Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books from the library, which helps improve their reading skills.

Book Review: The Original Love and Logic
Summary: 3 Stars

I believe it was my third grade teacher that began reading these to me, and instantly I was hooked. Betty MacDonald is an authoress who can write to both adults and children with fine hilarity, and her character Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle makes Mary Poppins look like a moron. I find her the progeny to the Love and Logic system. The book is filled with multiple stories about kids with various, common behavior problems. Concerned parents call up Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle who then doles out a hilarious but effective cure. It's fairly scripted, but the stories are cute and funny just the same.

Book Review: Fabulous!
Summary: 5 Stars

I believe this book series to be one of the most unique and creative series I've found. I read them all as a child, and I still find the stories funny today. Yes, they're mildly weird and unconventional, but they teach lessons in a very creative and fun way. Silly? Yes. Strange? Maybe. But nonetheless, one of my favorites. After all, who said books have to be un-silly?! The character is endearing, her stories use a ton of imagination, and allow children to use their as well. It doesn't have to make complete sense to be a wonderful book. I highly recommend them.

Book Review: Mrs. Piggle Wiggle at her best
Summary: 5 Stars

I have loved Mrs. Piggle Wiggle since grade school and searched for this book to give as a gift this Christmas. It might seem silly and simplistic to some; but the entertainment and joy the book brings is worth the read. It can also give some insight into alternate disciplining of children! Watch out kids!

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle take a different approach to helping parents with children in need of direction...she let's the kids realize that what they are doing is wrong and has consequences - all without causing them harm..maybe just a bit of discomfort!
