Book Reviews of Murder Game (GhostWalkers, Book 7)Book Review: Great addition to this series! Summary: 5 Stars
This is Kadan's and Tansy's story and is the 7th book in the Ghostwalker series. Although every book stands on its own, I think this book would be more enjoyable to those who are familiar with the characters and the broader drama of the storyline. I therefore recommend reading this series in order, or at least reading several of the earlier books before this one.
Tansy was one of the "lost girls", experimented on then put up for adoption. Kadan is one of the Ghostwalker's known for having "ice" in his veins; cold and unfeeling. Dr. Whitney had "genetically" paired the two, but the attraction became far more than that.
The big picture of this story focuses on the search for (and elimination of) a number of men who were enhanced minimally, but ultimately rejected from the Dr. Whitney's Ghostwalker program. These men have become assassins for hire controlled by a man known as "the puppet master" who worked for Dr. Whitney in the early days of his program. At first no one knows who is committing the murders, but because of the way the murders are carried out it is obvious the killers are "enhanced". Since the killers are not connected to Whitney at this point, the real Ghostwalker teams have become suspects. The murders are causing a stir in Washington and it is believed that if the killers are not caught and eliminated quickly a termination order for all Ghostwalkers would likely be issued from the White House. Someone within the White House already believes the Ghostwalkers are an abomination, and rogue Ghostwalkers would be a National Security nightmare. Kadan has been ordered to find out who is responsible for the murders and terminate them immediately.
Kadan has heard of Tansy and her talent as an "elite tracker". She can track killers by handling objects they have touched and has done so many times since she was 13 years old with 100% accuracy. This talent, like all of Dr. Whitney's enhancements, has come at great cost. She cannot touch or be touched. She doesn't understand exactly why she has this ability and was never taught the necessary skills to help protect her mind from the violence and images she absorbs when she tracks. This inability to protect herself lead her to the brink of insanity on the last serial killer she tracked and she considers her ability a curse. Kadan finds her deep in the Sierra's on a photo shoot assignment for National Geographic. It is in the woods, with animals, that she finds the most peace and she is an excellent photographer.
Kadan's history is important. As a young boy Kadan was hidden beneath the floorboards of his home and heard the screams of his family as they were all murdered. He was covered in their blood as it seeped through the cracks in the floor. When he emerged he took his father's gun and shot the men responsible then emotionally withdrew so far into himself he didn't believe he could feel love, and certainly didn't believe himself worthy of being loved.
Both of the main characters are emotionally starved, and Ms. Feehan works her magic to create the "perfect storm" for them to bond intimately and deeply. The sex is explosive and there is a lot of it. Christine Feehan is known for her ability to write scorching love scenes and this book is full of them. Unlike some of the reviewers I believe these occur very naturally in the book, especially when you consider the background of the characters. Kadan also uses sensual touch as a way of anchoring Tansy when she tracks. These are extreme individuals who are forced to live each day as if it may be their last. I loved every scene!!
If you like drama, intrigue, and hot romance with a splash of paranormal you will love this book . . . and the series. Ms Feehan's talent continues to amaze me. She has the ability to weave incredibly complex worlds in which her readers immerse themselves. Thank you for a wonderful read!
