Book Review: Wondrously Beautiful and Practical Bible

I have the purple bonded leather edition and I couldn't be happier! This is a BEAUTIFULLY designed bible both visually, practically and content wise - you can tell Zondervan put alot of thought and talent & spiritual insight into designing this bible! They use a 2 color design of purple (text and design elements) and green (design elements). The type face is perfect for legibility in thickness and clarity of serif font and point size is perfect for reading. They use a single column design format (which I think all bibles should adopt now) that allows for the 1700 beautifully designed study notes and quotes on every page in the wide outside margins (1.75 to 2"), while still allowing lots of white space left over in the outside margins for note taking (for those women who LOVE to write notes, like me). This bible also includes cross references -so you can really use this bible for studying (they are on the inside margin, legible but not obtrusive). Also, it has 52 weekly indepth bible studies that are deep and thought provoking which make this bible so wonderfully interactive which I love in well designed bibles! (The only drawback is that I wish they allowed space to write your answers in the bible study, perhaps making the underside of the page lined for notes and your answers). On top of that it includes 80 Character Sketches of the women in the bible.
This bible is packed full of amazing features which are full of spiritual depth, couple that with an incredibly beautiful and useful design and you've got one of the BEST bibles out there. You cannot get much better than this (except for the new bible Zondervan has just come out with called the True Identity Bible which is beautiful too!). I am still surprised that this bible hasn't got more written reviews, this boggles my mind! Now if only they could come up with a New Living Translation version of this bible and I would be transported!!! Any body listening out there??

Filled with enriching insights, it will help them connect with women of the past, present, and future. 'Women of Faith Study Bible offers a feminine perspective on an age-old text. In numerous places, the editors insert interpretations that celebrate and elevate women's status in the Bible. "Some have said that in times when men are spiritually weak God uses women instead," the editors write in the Book of Samuel. "It is probably more accurate to say the deeds and faith of women are simply more apparent in those times. For the Lord gives gifts and callings to all people."
In the opening pages readers will find a "Weekly Studies Index" that references the Old and New Testaments with metaphorical themes such as "Uncharted Waters," "Are You a Bush or a Tree?" and "Jars of Clay." It also offers almost 80 full-page "Character Sketches" that profile women from the Bible, such as "Eve, Mother of Discontent," "Jezebel--Bent on Evil," and "Noah's Wife: Along for the Ride or a Partner in Adventure?" (The latter sketch tries to imagine the thoughts and actions of this almost invisible wife: "Perhaps she resented all the extra work Noah's obsession caused.") Other features include a timeline of women in the Bible, a genealogy of Jesus, and a dictionary of biblical terms.
One disappointment is the thin paper stock, limiting its shelf life and making it fragile for a daily reader. Fortunately, the 13-page spread of full-color maps is printed on heavy stock paper. --Gail Hudson
