Book Reviews of Nakoa's WomanBook Review: typical Summary: 3 Stars
Cover reviews state "unforgettable" and the only reason I'd say so is because it is typical and the story has been read hundreds of times in other books. The story itself is great, but the main characters are shallow and like every other Native/Captive romance novel, but in a childish, bipolar way. Not only that, but the story shifts views to characters that have no real reason to have the limelight. I dont mind 3rd person omnipresent, but this was taking a bit far.
Maria is made out to be a strong female character (why I bought it to begin with; who wants frail heroines?) but she is just as cry-baby and "Ah, save me!" as every other female in stories such as these. One minute she's dignified and pissed (as well she should be) and then suddenly, out of the blue, she's head over heels in love with her captor, who has not yet shown any real quality traits except to show a tad bit of self restrain by not raping her, and then she is raging against him for being a "Savage!" then mourning over the fact he's mad at her.... so on and so forth. Dont get me wrong; I know relationships have their ups and downs, but this is headache inducing.
As for Nakoa, he's more of a minor character than anyone else in the story! we see him off and, usually to either drag her back to her hut or to rile her up. The people who are supposed to be minor characters have more of a role than he does! I am more interested in Anatsa and Apikunni's relationship than Maria and Nakoa's! With the exception of the lead characters, character development was fascinating. Some of the characters show a depth that is stunning and is what kept me reading the story.
All in all, it was a book that passed the time. I might read it again later to rage about bad character development, but it will probably just be put up on my shelf to look at and be... well, not pretty (dont get me started on cover art....). But if you are a die-hard Native/Captive romance novel lover, it is great for that addiction, and if you're into senseless, back and forth love, this goes along, too.
Summary of Nakoa's WomanThe tale of a beautiful white girl who is captured by the Blackfoot Indian warrior Nakoa, and of their stormy relationship as she struggles against her growing love for her captor and he struggles against the customs of his people. A large cast of vivid characters surrounds the young lovers as they work out their fates.
