Book Reviews of Nature GirlBook Review: Magnificent prose with characters you can believe Summary: 4 Stars
I have never read such a truly funny book with such brilliant descriptions. The slightly bipolar Honey is all to real, along with her startlingly normal adolescent son and reformed drug-runner ex-husband. Added in are a stereotypical loser telemarketer depicted in exquisite detail along with his love interest; a half-Indian with a hanger-on chickie (who has Can't Shut Up Syndrome); a psycho-stalker lech; and a private investigator who is in way over his head. This is not just another foolish book with a contrived plot. It is beautifully written from the "glistening pearls of mayonnaise" on a chin to the deadpan comebacks of Eugenie. The contrast of character and prose will entertain and delight. Through it all Hiassen gives us descriptions of Florida make you want to sign up for an Eco-Tour with Honey.
Book Review: I miss road kill Summary: 5 Stars
The only thing missing from Nature Girl is the ex-governor whose diet is primarily road kill. Skink is one of the best characters in crime, mystery, comic fiction. But, that's another story. Nature Girl is filled with people who are nearly as well drawn. All within the swamp like climate of south Florida. Hiassen rules Florida writers, many who are very entertaining. No one gets us into the mangroves like Hiassen. Nature Girl's plot is as implausible as all Hiassen's books. But who cares? His writing is hilarious.

Book Review: Not as good as "Skinny Dip" Summary: 3 Stars
I was a bit let down by this book. The reviewers raved and had me looking forward to something exceptional. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I did not find this book as funny as earlier Hiaasen novels. Yes there are some hilarious moments, but these are followed by pages that had me struggling to keep my eyes open. If you are a fan you'll still want to read this book, and if you know going in what to expect you will probably enjoy the book more than I did, but if I had it to do over again I would wait for the paperback!
Book Review: Sub-par effort by hilarious Hiaasen Summary: 1 Stars
Just finished Nature Girl and was disappointed. Hiaasen's other novels are satirically wild romps, with the nasty guys getting their just desserts. But this one just limps along, as bland as cold oatmeal. He tries to spice it up with gratuitous sex, but it just doesn't work. Nothing punchy, nothing edgy. Skip this one and pick up, say, Double Whammy or even Strip Tease.
Book Review: Great Weekend Read Summary: 5 Stars
This book was an entertaining distraction from real life. Throughout the book I was excited to how the characters came colliding together in a hilarious situation born out of their own ineptness. This book is a funny tribute to human nature and Florida beauty. It was a great diversion for me while I spent the weekend at the beach.
