Book Reviews of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Vol. 1Book Review: One of the better "conversions" I've seen in some time!!! Summary: 5 Stars
"Neon Genesis Evangelion", written by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, is not your "run of the mill" robot anime/manga... It could be ranked as one of the best all time series that I've seen, out of this genre... Yes, even topping Robotech! There is much more emotion in "Evangelion" in just the first Graphic Novel than I ever remember seeing in the aforementioned series. Not to knock Robotech, but move over SDF... here come the Evas!!! Even if you are not really into Japanese animation, this is definitely something that I would recommend to anyone!
Book Review: The absolute best!! Summary: 5 Stars
What can I say, people? What can ANYBODY say? Evangelion was the anime series that set otaku on both sides of the Pacific on their collective ear!! Nothing like this was ever done before and it will be a long time before anything like this happens again! I have to say the manga does not have the exact same continuity of the anime, but it still delivers the excitement. I only wonder how Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will end this series. Will it be any different than Hideaki Anno's two (yes, two) endings? For sure, I'm gonna be around to find out!
Book Review: Interesting. Summary: 4 Stars
I own the DVD series and when I saw this volume of manga I had to pick it up. It is interesting and the artwork is excellent. But I found that it didn't really offer alot new. A few scraps here and there, much of which was hinted at during the series. If you don't want the DVD series but want to know all about it then this is a good buy, if you are a evangelion nut then buy it. But if you own the series and are just happy with it then I would not buy this as well.
Book Review: Reasonably impressed Summary: 4 Stars
As a fan of the series, I thought I'd go ahead and check out the book. Artistically it is well done, though I'd say some of the scenes are very confusing visually. There is just so much detail there's just too much noise in some of the scenes. That, and it seemed to read "too quick". I don't know, it just seemed like I breezed through it very quickly. Once again, well done with just a few small complaints. Thumbs up!
Book Review: The differences in the manga puts a whole new spin on things Summary: 5 Stars
Rei piloting EVA 01? Shinji being just a little less wishy washy? If you love the anime series like I do, the manga is a must. The art is solid throughout and the story is why we love Neon Genesis Evangelion so very much. If you are still not convinced, there is a must read essay by Ano on the last couple of pages and it gives you a whole 'nother view of this remarkable series.
