Book Review: Just read the manual, nothing new here

Can't really recommend to anyone with any earlier experience with digital SLR's...perhaps for beginners purchasing D300 as their first DSLR? On the other hand, D300 is not really aimed for that target group.
Two stars for beginner book...0-1 starts for anyone else.
Number of clear errors in text. Lot of very general information of photography. Hardly any useful D300 information, that is not easily found from the Nikon D300 manual. Good basis for writing same kind of book from next Nikon model to come.
I was expecting usage tips not found in the manual and info based on user experience...and was disappointed.
Every minute spent with this book...I should have been shooting with my new D300.
Book Review: Nikon D300 Camera body

I found this camera very easy to opporate, even with many multi-function buttons. Having used a F3 for most of the last 20 years and a D50 for the last couple. Everthing just felt normal and well built. I also purchased the battery pack, as I pefer to use AA batteries to power the camera. I'm more than happy with the purchase and expect this camera to last me for many years to come.
I'm experimenting with the various formats (currently RAW) and having a blast using the different features of Photoshop, shooting still lifes in the studio and spring flowers. I no longer currently make my living with Photography, but I would feel comfortable taking a couple D300's to any shoot.

The amount of features that a D300 has can be overwhelming, especially to someone who is moving up from an entry level Nikon or other brand DSLR. This guide really helps flesh out what the manual gives you with real world and practical examples. The D300 Digital Field Guide is especially great for explaining, and walking through the different custom functions, with easy to read images getting you through the menu. I also think the explanation of all the flash options--the commander mode and how to use multiple flashes--and slow sync operations really will help make using the D300 easier.Book Review: Easy to use field guide

I found this guide to be easy to read, with concise directions. Especially the intro to the D300.
It leads you through a guide to the camera, which is much easier to follow than the manual. And it directs you to the specific area of the book for details, as you go through it.
I really think it is a worthwhile investment to make using the features of the D300 a lot easier and more fun
Book Review: Less than 1/2 the book is D300 specific

The rest of the book is generic photography 101 material. I was disappointed. The book lacks depth on the D300 features and capabilities. I recently received and read David Busch's D300 book and it is much more in-depth and has very little generic photography 101 in it.
This "field guide" will be discarded in favor of David Busch's D300 guide.
