Book Reviews of Nikon D70 Digital Field GuideBook Review: Best D70 Guide I've Seen! Summary: 5 Stars
What a bargain this was! My brother brought me a copy from New York yesterday, and I eagerly opened it up to see what I could learn about my new D70s. I was very pleased with what I found. This book helped me understand many of the more esoteric features of my camera, so I could immediately correct some errors in my techniques.
The author manages to cram a lot of information into this book, including some valuable basics about photography, using lenses, and why the KIT lens is such a good value. I especially liked the advice on what settings to use in particular shooting situations. For less than US$20.00 this was a real bargain.
Book Review: A great reference for any D70 owner... Summary: 4 Stars
This book is well written and full of color and is easy to read. It does rehash a lot of the same information from the owners manual, but it is very easy to follow and makes more sense than the owners manual. In fact, I haven't even looked at my owners manual that much and have learned most of what I know about the D70s from this book. It has some good tutorials on the different types of photography (i.e. portraits, landscapes, closeups, etc, etc) I would have rated it five stars if it was a little more indepth on some of the fuctions of the D70s, but all in all, this is a very handy book for a D70 owner.
Book Review: The Perfect Companion Summary: 5 Stars
Wow. I recently splurged on my new digital SLR, and this book is just what I needed to complete the kit. It's packed with useful information about the camera (way more understandable than the manual that Nikon supplied. It also has a central "mega-chapter" that is packed with professional shooting techniques in all kinds of situations, and plenty of other information on accessories, etc. Great color printing, too. I compared this with the Lark books out there, thought this one looked better, and happily I was correct. This one goes in my camera bag, as I'm sure I'll use it wherever I'm shooting!
Book Review: Perfect for the new D70 Owner Summary: 5 Stars
Somewhat contrary to a recent review here, I found this book to be perfect for my needs. The previous review is incorrect in stating that the author does not go into "whys" or alternatives. In fact, I was extremely impressed that in the author's discussion of the various D70 program modes, he was very specific in describing why and when you would want to use each of these modes, and when you would *not* want to use them. This book is filled with great photos, and a perfect mix of useful information -- much better than the manual that comes with the camera. This is a superb resource!
Book Review: Best Guide to the D70 Summary: 5 Stars
I checked out all the other guidebooks for the D70, and this one is by far the best. The DVDs are impractical -- who can take a DVD with you out to the field? The e-books are clumsy to use -- you can't read them except on a computer, and who takes pictures at their computer? What I wanted was a book, and one that wasn't just a rehash of the user manual. This is that book. It has lots of information about the D70 as well as the kind of photographic information you need to improve your photographic skills. This is truly the best guide to this great Nikon camera.
