Book Review: I couldn't put this book down!
Summary: 5 Stars

Cynthia Bigge is a 14 year old girl who wakes up after a night of partying only to find a problem - her entire family (mom, dad and brother) are gone.

Linwood Barclay writes a great thriller as I was captivated from the first few pages. He then moves us to current day life where Cynthia is now married to a man (Terry Archer) and lives a somewhat normal life with her husband and their daughter. Still, Cynthia appears worried, paranoid and tends to be overly protective of their daughter. Cars drive by their home that make her suspicious. Her husband tries to be patient, but begins to wonder as clues begin to show up that may indicate her family may be alive. Did Cynthia kill her family or is there even more to the story?

This is a great book with great twists, great characters and a great plot. It never slows down and it kept me interested from page one.

Great read. I think I'll have to read his other works as this was a fun read.

Book Review: Riveting: Don't start this late at night
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this book riveting, a real page turner. A young girl wakes up and her family is gone, never to be seen again. How does she go on with her life? How does it haunt her? This is filled with mysterious details large and small: why were their beds perfectly made? Why is her daughter named 'Grace'? If a killer came in the middle of the night, how did he get three healthy people out of the house without waking the fourth?

The book has some false notes: the characters could be a bit more dimensional; why is one key student always referred to by her full name, not just her first name? But overall it's excellent and well worth the time.

I'm one of those people who usually spots what's going on early, but not in this case. Loved it, glad I stayed up late to read it, would definitely recommend you not start it until you have the time to read the whole thing.

Book Review: Best read in one sitting
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a story which builds momentum steadily. The prologue is definitely a hook as a teenager awakes after an alcohoic binge and subsequent fight with her family only to find them inexplicably gone. We then encounter her 25 years later, still traumatized by her family's desappearance, but happily married and with a daughter. We meet her husband, her aunt, and several adjacent characters as she is first interviewed on TV, and then a few incidents occur culminating in a couple of murders obviously somehow connected with the initial disappearance of her family, and we also get brief, tantalizing glimpses at those apparantly responsible. This is an author I've only recently discovered, and although I wasn't that taken by the first of his books that I read, this book definitely boosts him in my estimation.

Book Review: Cold Hearted Father
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, I read the book, and it is my first time reading anything by this author. The premise is good, and I liked the characterization of Terry, Cynthia, and Tess, their young daughter.

The only real problem I have with the storyline is the way people in this book have of handling the murders of their loved ones. Cynthia and Terry discovered her aunt on the kitchen floor, and after a brief dialogue, they went outside to wait for the police. I suppose if I catalogued each scene, it would give too much away, but you've read the book, so you know what I refer to. Normal people just don't react this way, at least not the normal people I know. I suppose for the author it would have taken up too much time to write, so he cut the emotional part out and forged ahead with his story.

Book Review: Very suspenseful!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be my last.
When Cynthia Bigge was 14 she woke up one morning and found her whole family
gone. She thought they left her because they were angry with her. They were
never found......25 years later she is still trying to find out what happened.
She is now happily married with a young child, and a loving husband but is very paranoid about leaving her daugther alone, fearing she may also disappear. Now someone is stalking her,
and things begin to unravel.
Very suspenseful book, I didn't want to put it down. The author could have used F.....k a lot less, it wasn't necessary as far as I am concerned, but all in all, very enjoyable read.
Can't wait to read another!
