Ruth Rendell is both a popular and a prolific author writing under her own name and also as Barbara Vine. This is the 21st in her Wexford series. There are two cases of murder committed 11 years prior to be solved, and there is also a sub-plot involving female circumcision, or genital mutilation, involving Somali immigrants in Kingsmarkham. The book held my interest and it was an enjoyable read. Fans of Inspector Wexford should like it, too.
