Book Review: Now my Daughter keeps asking to read more!!!

Before we got these books we tried a lot of the ready to read paper backs that were Dora, Barbie and other topics. My 6 year old daughter would get frustrated since there wasn't enough repetition for her to help her internalize the phonics behind the words she was reading. The 'Now I'm Reading' series have been the best set we've found. The pictures are light years better than the Bob series. My daughter loves to read now. Tonight she asked if she could read all 10 in one of the sets. If you read the books in order, they'll build their skills in progression learning short vowels 1st and long vowels 2nd. She also likes getting the stickers to show that she is reading them. I really like the parent guide and questions at the end of each book. It helped me understand how to help her read beyond just listening or reading to her. My only complaint is that it was hard to tell how many sets there are at each level.Book Review: YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN TO READ!!

Absolutely excellent readers for children. all they need is a basic knowledge of the letter sounds and these books will take over from there. My three children learned to read from these books and learned FAST! Her system is the most logical out there. Most "phonics" books are ridiculous. They are full of words that no child can sound out, such as "sight", etc. How they can be categorized as easy readers or beginner level books is beyond me. Ms. Gaydos' books, however, start out very simple. Every word in her level one books is pronounced exactly as it is spelled - for example a page might say "A cat sat on a mat" - which gives a child confidence. The page after it adds a new word or two, and so forth - such as "A fat cat sat on a flat mat" or something similar. If your child isn't breezing through these books in a matter of days, I'll eat a fat cat on a mat!Book Review: Great books for reluctant reader

I purchased the Level 1 Now I Can Read series for my daughter when she was in kindergarten. She was not taking to reading as quickly as her classmates. These books have been a lifesaver in the first grade. They are short but emphasize one phonics skill per book. The stories are funny and the pictures are cute. The repetition is great for an early reader and not excessive. The stickers and the format of 10 books in one case, each with its own CD sleeve make it attractive to kids. I have bought a library worth of so-called early reader books from Scholastic and other resources. There is no comparison. These were clearly written by a teacher who understands the progression of reading skills and the importance of keeping it light and managable. I commend Nora Gaydos and am proud that she is a graduate of my alma mater, Miami University.Book Review: AMAZING Reading Tool!

I have shopped around for so many phonics books and did not stop until my daughter and I found this one. It is the best!My daughter graduated from reading 3-letter words to reading independently by going through Nora Gaydos's 4 volumes. The progression of each book helped her gain confidence and the brilliant and colorful illustration lends to children developing their own insight into the story. The length is just right so children are never too tired to complete the whole book.
The stickers are also a great motivational tool. My daughter always feels such a sense of accomplishment when she finishes off the stickers for each book.
The only thing the series lacks is the availability of additional stickers so younger siblings can enjoy the process of learning to read too.

My daughter had been struggling to read more fluently so I got the Bob Book Series for her & it was such a struggle to get her to want to read them. A teacher working in a bookstore recommended this series & it was amazing how excited she was to read to me every night. We quickly went thru the Prereader & Level 1 & 2 & now I am waiting for the level 3 books to arrive. They are funny & the illustrations are nice & colorful. Loves putting the stickers on when she has finished the story. They made a big difference in her confidence & she can't wait to read them. Highly recommeded as a confidence builder!!
