Book Reviews of Off Season

Book Review: Thank Goodness for Ms Siddons
Summary: 5 Stars

My heart beat sped up when I finally got my hands on a copy of the latest Anne Rivers Siddons book. Off Season is one of her best works, in my not so humble opinion. Having read owned every book she's published, this one is amazing. I went through the gauntlet of emotions, bawling, laughing, anger, anticipation, even the numbing process. That was odd I must admit. The ending was a shocker. Didn't see that coming and was, am, still pissed off. And happy too. OK, I just realized I'm still involved in the story and should maybe wait until I'm not so wrapped up in the characters before I write a review. Well, I won't be lending out my copy anytime soon, but I will be purchasing a few for people who matter enough. And please, please, please don't stop writing Ms. Siddons. Your gift is so amazing.

Book Review: Long build up,instant ending
Summary: 1 Stars

It took a long time to read all the descriptions while wanting to know the rest of a dialogue, here and there. Instead of describing a moment in time, I wanted to know Kitty's answer. I have just discovered ARS books and have found them very appealing. But not this one. After five books in a row, I am tired of beautiful women in the extreme, redheads, quotes from the Jungle Book, architects, Princeton and rump sprung sofas. I do not believe a girl not having one date between 11 and 17. Only two boy friends and each a great love of her life. C'mon . . . Really? Nothing in this book was believable. Her brother at a computer camp in 1960's? PC's came along in the '80's! A saracastic cat - cute! I took my sixth ARS book back to the library without reading it . . .maybe later.

Book Review: A character I can relate to...
Summary: 4 Stars

Lilly Constable McCall was only fifty-three-years-old when she lost her precious husband, Cam. Lost in her grief and depression, Lilly returns to the family cottage in Edgewater. She spends time reminiscing and dealing with her grief in her own way.

Lilly takes readers back to her childhood. We meet her mother and father. We watch as a new girl town flirts with Cam. As we move back and forth in time we meet a love that Lilly lost.

Off Season has a shocking twist at the end of the book that seemed out of place. Anne Rivers Siddons has her own pleasant style of writing. I always enjoy books with a lead character that I can relate to; Lily is that type of character. Fans of Siddons will enjoy Off Season.

Book Review: Fabulous Read!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to admit that I'll never love one of Ms. Siddons' novels as much as I do "Peachtree Road", which made me gasp in shock at the ending. It was the quintessential Southern novel....BUT, having said that, I thought that this was one of her best novels in many years.

The plot kept me intrigued and Ms. Siddons created one of those deliciously devious women who we love to hate (especially at the end---wow, what a surprise!)

I have to strongly disagree with other reviewers who said that the ending was ambiguous. I found it quite clean and neat (although, I, too, wanted the story to keep going). If you loved the earler Siddons' books, then you'll gobble this one up, too. Give it a chance and enjoy the read.

Book Review: ending needed help
Summary: 3 Stars

I think this was a good book that could have been alot better. I felt that the ending of the book could have been explained a lot easier if it had began somewhere in the middle. Why couldn't she feel Jon was with her all along? His character, who was so strong at the beginning virtually disapppears and then shows up again in the very last pages for the big finish. The last chapter felt like it didn't quite belong to the rest of the book. It almost feels like an entirely different book could have been written with the same beginning and the same finish, just a different middle. I think I might have enjoyed that more. The characters that we are suppossed to love as much as Lily did, dissappoint us with little explanation.
