Book Review: A True Horror Classic But Be Warned It Is Exceedingly Graphic!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has been a milestone of the genre since its first publication. It has been sought after by collectors and fans of horror. Now with this book returning to bookshelves, a whole new generation of readers will be drawn to it and people hunting the book for the last 20 years will finally have a chance to read it. That being said, I must point out that this book is the MOST GRAPHIC and HORRIFYING horror novel you will ever read. It simply cannot be compared to anything you've ever read. It is brutal, unflinching, terrifying and horrible. Now, this is not to say that it should be banned or anything of that nature. What I mean to say is that this book is not for everyone. Certainly not for kids or teens. This is adult, graphic material. The book is written with true artistry and IS most definitely a classic of the genre. However, it will sicken you and infuriate you and you will have to keep reading. So, in closing, let me say, that it is great that a horror classic is back in print. Just know what you're getting into when you pick it up.

Book Review: Hardest of the Hardcore
Summary: 5 Stars

Off Season is one of the most savage and brutally graphic novels I've ever read -- right up there with Edward Lee's TERATOLOGIST and Richard Laymon's IN THE DARK. This book is right up there with Ketchum's other masterpiece, THE GIRL NEXT DOOR.

I loved the slow build up and the introduction of each character. By putting them on the same playing field, I never knew who the story would follow and who our protagonist would be. This made for a more suspenseful read because I didn't know who the next to die would be. It was a deliciously fast read and thank God we have brilliant editors like Don D'Auria to put out brave material like this.

In his afterword, Jack Ketchum tells of his fight to publish his uncensored version and the idiots like editor Marc Jaffe who used to work at Ballantine Books and made Jack rewrite the material over and over to water it down for it's first publication. Now Don D'Auria at Leisure books is on the scene and the horror world is a much better place.

Book Review: very detailed and chilling book.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book for $1.00 at the dollar tree store here in town. I was skeptical at first because of the price I paid for it. But I must admit I was wrong. The book started out kindof boring (by the way this is the unedited uncut version I have), but after the first couple of chapters of getting to know the characters the book got rather interesting. The book was very gory and disturbing. To imagine that it might be possible for something like this to happen just chills me to the bone. The sentences were very steady, complete, and fast paced. Some authors use very short sentences and it is impossible to build momentum and get a steady pace going, others use run on sentences and it is hard to follow the plot. Ketchum was perfect on his sentences. Not to long, but long enough that when you read one it easily carries you on to the next one, the next one, and so on.

I liked this book a lot. It was very creepy and interesting. I am going to look for more ketchum books now.

Book Review: Disgusting and Awesome....
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is like a bad slasher film. The dialogue isn't the best, and we don't see all the characters developed as one might hope, but we do have lots and lots of gruesome deaths and a very spooky atmosphere. And perhaps this is exactly what makes the story so good. This is the tale of reclusive cannibals who live in Maine, and their treatment of six unwary campers that rent a cottage for a week. I can safely say that this book was such a page turner I read it in just under two hours, and then literally had trouble sleeping after - it's that disturbing.
What I liked a lot was the Afterward by Ketchum, where he explains the efforts his publisher went through to make the book less violent in the original edition, and how it came to be that the expurgated edition was created.

For fans of extreme gore, or just great slasher-type horror movies, this is the book for you. Be warned however, that you may never want to go camping again!

Book Review: One Scary Tale
Summary: 5 Stars

While on an assigment Carla, an editor from New York rents what she believes will be a cozy, quiet and secluded cabin in the woods of a remote Maine beach town. During the summer this small resort gets it's share of tourists but in the off season it's just the locals. Her nearest neighbors are miles away. Carla invites her sister Marjie, her boyfriend Jim and a few other friends out for a visit. The group settles in for their first night unknownst to them that they are being watched by the most gruesome bunch of evil doers they could encounter. Suddenly, they are under attack and are about to learn the true meaning of sadism and torture. These killers show no mercy. Even the children are pure evil engaging in such nasty acts of violence and lust your skin will crawl. No details are spared in this hellish nightmare! I had to close my eyes and look away a few times, but no matter how squirmish I became, I could not stop reading. Chop chop!
