I will apologize to Cheri in advance for a bad review. I don't want to be mean spirited but I have owned this book for several years now & each time I take it out to look for a good venison recipe I end up putting it back unused. The few I tried when I first got it I had marked in the book "don't make again". I feel that from the beginning the book is written assuming that you don't/won't like venison & there is a lot of ketchup used. Most recipes are for ground venison too. The recipes seem to imply mask, mask, mask. Cover up & disguise the venison. Why? My family has always hunted and 99% of our Whitetail deer in NYS don't need masking. They are not "gamey" at all if properly butchered. I just put on a pot of venison stew & once again pulled out this useless book before starting it. Decided to write this review & now I will toss it in the garbage pail. No sense taking up space with it any longer. I do not know if there is a better venison cookbook. Frankly I have been afraid to try another one after this. Most beef recipes can be substituted for venison so that is what I do.
